Job Summary

The Los Angeles Unified School District is seeking an outstanding Assistant Principal, Elementary Instructional Specialist to lead the students, staff, and community at various schools towards academic success. Assistant Principal, Elementary Instructional Specialists (APEIS) work as an itinerant administrator to assist principals in meeting special education compliance obligations, including ensuring that the legal requirements for the IEP process are met and that services outlined on the IEP are provided; ensure appropriate instruction and services are provided to students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment and facilitates active parent participation in all aspects of the IEP process and school program; and advise school staff to ensure academic and behavioral interventions are implemented prior to referrals for special education. APEIS serve multiple schools and must have a valid California Driver's License, access to an automobile, and the ability to travel throughout the District. The Ideal Candidate will have both elementary and special education teaching experience; successful experience as a program specialist or in a position related to special education; successful experience in an elementary school leadership position, such as a grade level chairperson, school coordinator, demonstration teacher or a position requiring leadership in the instructional program in grades Pre K- through 5th grade. The schools are located in various parts of the Local District. Welligent experience and knowledge of Special Education laws, policies, and procedures are desirable.

Assists the elementary school principal in developing collaborative general and special education instructional programs and meeting special education compliance obligations, including ensuring that the legal requirements for the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) processes are met, IEP mandated services are delivered and monitored, Chanda Smith Implementation Plans are addressed at the school site, appropriate instruction and services are provided to students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment and parent involvement and active participation.
