Requirements / Qualifications
DEFINITION Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, organizes, coordinates, and performs skilled work in assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing pipes, fittings, and fixtures pertaining to heating, water, drainage systems, and gas lines; performs semiskilled and skilled duties in other maintenance trade areas; and performs other related work as assigned and/or required. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Experience: Four years of experience, three of which must be within the past ten years, as a journey level plumber is desired. Education: Verification of a High School diploma, a GED certificate, or a higher degree, supplemental course work or training in advanced plumbing methods and techniques or completion of a formal apprenticeship in the Plumbing Trade is desirable. License Requirement: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Condition of Employment: Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier. Finalists scheduled for an interview must provide a current DMV printout (not more than 30 days old) prior to the interview.
QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Methods, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in the plumbing trade; applicable plumbing codes, guidelines and regulations; backflow prevention regulations and devices; boiler safety regulations and devices; safe working methods and procedures. Ability to: Skillfully install, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures and systems; work from blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, and schematics; plan, lay out, and coordinate the work of others; accurately estimate labor and material costs; maintain simple records and files, and prepare complete and concise reports; understand and follow oral and written directions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
