ABOUT THE JOB: Persons in these positions work 6.5 hours per day, Monday-Friday, during school session and receive medical, dental, vision and life insurance and retirement benefits. This eligibility list may also be used to fill substitute assignments. Under the general direction of a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), provides activities designed by an SLP to develop pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, and use of assistive technology devices for communication. May work with students who have severe speech and language disorders, and/or physical and emotional disabilities; performs related work as assigned.
JOB DUTIES: Follows documented therapy plans developed by the supervising SLP; documents student progress; assists with informal documentation; assists Speech-Language Pathologist during assessment, without clinical interpretation; prepares therapy materials and/or equipment for use in classroom and therapy activities; adapts or modifies instructional materials and/or equipment, at the direction of an SLP; performs checks on augmentative communication devices and equipment, and provides updates to an SLP; works with students who may exhibit behaviors such as biting, kicking, hitting, pinching, scratching, spitting, pushing, pulling, running and other non-compliant behaviors; may conduct speech-language screenings; may participate in in-service trainings; and performs related clerical duties.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: An Associate’s degree, completion of a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program, and a license as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant with the State of California. Any other combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
LICENSES: Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California Driver License and remain insurable at the standard insurance market rate. Must possess and maintain a valid Speech and Language Pathology Assistant License issued by the California Speech and Language Pathology, Audiology, and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board.
A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING….
Knowledge of: Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; effective record keeping practices and procedures; human anatomy and physiology; normal speech, language, and hearing development; language disorders and rehabilitation; articulation disorders and rehabilitation; acquired disorders and rehabilitation; clinical methods and procedures; and hearing disorders.
Ability to: Perform simple math calculations to compile reports; maintain records and status reports; recall facts, figures, names, faces, and information; complete tasks in a timely manner; work independently; work on a variety of tasks simultaneously; interact successfully with students, supervisors, and school staff; use good judgment in making independent decisions to respond to student requests and needs; select appropriate techniques to be used with students; meet accuracy and productivity requirements to perform the required tasks of this position; and communicate effectively in English.
