ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA VIRTUAL ACADEMIES AND THE HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELOR POSITIONS: The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public independent study charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to students in grades TK-12 in California. We use Stride as our curriculum provider for the basis of instruction and teachers provide live instruction via the Newrow platform. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to log into the online school daily, complete coursework, and attend instructional sessions. Our Guidance Counselors have a full caseload and manage all aspects of a child’s educational plan. Counselors manage a wide variety of job duties that include, but are not limited to, working with at-risk students, college applications, financial aid, 4 Year Plans, college preparation, post-graduate plans, concurrent enrollment, creating schedules, and ensuring that students are on track to graduate. Working in an online environment is a unique and rewarding experience. Counselors that work for the California Virtual Academies work at a quick pace and often manage many tasks at once.
HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION: Full time Guidance Counselors work Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:00pm. You are not allowed to have another job during these hours. Full Time: Bachelor's, Master's, or higher- $62,153-$66,933 annual salary based on years of experience We do participate in CalSTRS. Please contact your CalSTRS counselor about how employment with any of the California Virtual Academies may affect your personal STRS account. Only full time employees are offered health, dental, and vision benefits. Benefits information is only given out upon offer. We do provide training for all programs and we have a great staff to serve as your support system. Please Note: Applications and interviews are only valid for one school year. As the California Virtual Academies are public schools and this is a public school High School Guidance Counselor position, these are set contracted hours and you must be available/working during these hours while under contract with the California Virtual Academies. You are not allowed to have another job during these contracted hours.
Start Date
August 2021- Immediate hires as needed throughout the 2021-2022 school year. We are an enrollment based school, we hire throughout the school year to support the needs of our growing student populations.
Location
Our Administrative Office is located in Simi Valley, CA, but most of our Guidance Counselors work from home.

High School Guidance Counselor positions are hired throughout California as we service students and hire in most California counties, except the following 15 counties: Alpine, Del Norte, El Dorado, Glenn, Humboldt, Lassen, Mariposa, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Tehama, Tuolumne, and Trinity.
