CAFETERIA WORKER I DEFINITION Under supervision, to maintain food services facilities and equipment in a neat, clean, safe and sanitary condition; to assist in the preparation, setting up and serving of food; and to do other related work as required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES 1. Cleans serving counters, food containers and other equipment; 2. Operates dishwasher and washes trays, plates, utensils and other serving equipment; 3. Assists in setting up steam tables for food services; serves food to students and faculty; 4. Stores kitchen equipment; 5. Assists in the ordering and preparation of food; 6. Prepares snack cart; 7. Assists and monitors in the set up, preparation, and breakdown of the salad bar, and monitors student flow and refill of salad bar items; 8. Monitors and assists in maintaining food temperatures to ensure food safety during holding, cooling, and storage; 9. Acts as cashier; 10. Reports any perceived or potential equipment defects in a time efficient manner to the manager and Child Nutrition office; 11. Operates point of sale machinery / equipment. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Basic methods of preparing and serving foods in large quantities; Maintaining high quality food preparation; Operation and use of various food service equipment used at district sites; Proper use and maintenance of equipment; Sanitation and safety standards; Applicable county, state, and federal school food service regulations; Standard food services appliances and equipment. Ability to: Operate a variety of food service equipment; Apply principals of food service, sanitation and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system in daily activities; Follow standards of food and nutrition excellence into daily operations; Collect money and make change accurately; Work quickly and efficiently; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain positive, cooperative working relationships. Experience:
     None required

Education:
     Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade;
     Valid food handler card, preferred;
