Job Summary
A rotating substitute position provides classroom coverage for teacher absences on an as needed basis. A substitute teacher is responsible for the delivery of the instructional program as well as to maintain the care, welfare, safety, and security of students in the classroom. This position offers flexibility to select which days you would like to work through the District's Absence Management software from the comfort of your home on your phone or computer. Long-Term Substitutes are assigned to one class for 21 or more days and are eligible for a higher rate of pay.
Requirements / Qualifications
Please attached a resume, transcripts with bachelor's degree and relevant credits, and any passing scores for CBEST, ACT, or SAT testing. Previously employed DNUSD teachers/administrators that have separated employment in good standing are eligible for the Credentialed Rate as a Rotating Substitute. Credentialed rate is defined as the rate a substitute that holds a current California preliminary or clear teaching credential is eligible for as follows: 1) Placement on the salary schedule based on verification of certificated teaching/administrative experience up to a maximum of ten (10) years; and 2) Previous DNUSD teachers/administrators are eligible for additional years to include teaching/administrative experience within DNUSD
To become a substitute, applicants must either have a credential or a permit authorizing eligibility to teach in a classroom such as a preliminary or clear California teaching credential or an University Internship Credential (CL-402A). Applicants that do not hold a credential may qualify for an Emergency 30-day Substitute Teaching Permit (CL-505p). In accordance with Commission on Teacher Credentialling “CTC” regulations the following restrictions apply (note: CTC may provide alternative teaching day maximums): “The Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit authorizes the holder to serve as a day-to-day substitute teacher in any classroom, including preschool, kindergarten, and grades 1-12 inclusive, or in classes organized primarily for adults. The holder may serve as a substitute for no more than 30 days for any one teacher during the school year, except in a special education classroom, where the holder may serve for no more than 20 days for any one teacher during the school year. This permit is valid for one year and is renewable. In order to employ individuals on an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit, the employing agency must keep a completed Statement of Need form (CL-505a) on file at their office for the duration of the school year.” The following are required to be eligible for a Emergency 30-day Substitute Teaching Permit: 1. Must have an awarded bachelor’s degree (must provide official transcripts); and 2. Basic Skills requirements are commonly met with the following: a. CBEST, CSET, or qualified ACT/SAT scores; or b. Del Norte County Unified School District serves more than 4,000 K-12 students in ten regular schools, one comprehensive high school, one continuation high school, and several alternative education programs.
The Community
Del Norte County is located in the northwestern corner of California, where the Redwoods meet the Pacific Ocean. It is the home of Redwood National Park. Within its boundaries are the worlds tallest trees, a rugged Pacific coastline, and scenic rivers that make it one of the nation’s most enchanting areas. Several microclimates are located within 15 minutes of Crescent City. Recreational activities include hiking, beachcombing, camping, surfing, hunting, fishing, boating, and more.
The pleasant coastal climate of our area allows the community to add to residents enjoyment by holding a number of annual events such as the Crab Races, the Easter Lily Festival, the Sea Cruise car show, and an old time Fourth of July celebration.
Crescent City is the county’s only incorporated municipal entity and is the principle commercial center. Over half the county’s residents live in the greater Crescent City area.
The Del Norte community is further enhanced by numerous music programs, a community concert association, amateur theater groups, and an active organization for cultural awareness.
Extended educational opportunities are available through the community college adjacent to Del Norte High School and the Del Norte University Center.
Fishing, agriculture, lumber, and tourism are among the area’s main industries. Because of the large expanse of public lands and multiple public services many residents are public employees.
