Job Description
TITLE: Instructional Aide, Computer Education
DESCRIPTION:Under the general direction of certificated staff will be responsible for providing a wide variety of responsible prescribed support services to students and staff in a Computer Assisted Instruction Laboratory or in designated class micro-computer work stations; do related work consistent with the job description.
REPORTS TO: Principal

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Plan with teachers the instructional activities of students and help to implement these activities.
Organize and maintain records of student progress and review these records with certificated staff.
Trouble shoot computer, printer and disk problems.
Accomplish minor equipment repairs and/or request computer repairperson when appropriate.
Is responsible for scheduling teachers' use of the computer laboratory.
Maintain site software inventory.
Monitor student behavior in the Computer Assisted Instruction Laboratory and designated classrooms.
Assist students in following teacher planned instructional programs.
Monitor supplies and order replacements.
Maintain a neat and orderly Computer Assisted Instructional Laboratory and/or designated classroom microcomputers work station.
Maintain regular attendance.
Work cooperatively with others.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Training and Experience: Two years’ experience working with microcomputers and the completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent or any combination of education, experience and training which meets or exceeds the standards of knowledge, skills and abilities listed.
Knowledge: Knowledge required to implement planned instructional activities, identify problems and make minor repairs to equipment used in the Computer Assisted Instructional Laboratory or microcomputer workstations in designated classrooms. Knowledge of methods, practices and terminology commonly used in the use of microcomputers; correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; simple clerical procedures for the receipt, inventory and storage of a variety of microcomputer materials and supplies; student behavior management techniques and strategies.
Abilities: Ability to learn mid-level difficulty microcomputer terminal skills and the use of a variety of computer software; work with a minimum of direction; relate to students in a supportive manner; learn to operate and do average difficulty troubleshooting on equipment commonly used in a Computer Assisted Instruction Laboratory and classroom microcomputer work stations; meet the public tactfully and courteously and establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; learn to maintain student progress records and to ensure that students are following teacher planned instructional programs in the proper sequence.
Physical Effort/Work Environment: Moderate lifting required.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: A pre-placement physical examination may be required.
Possession of a valid California driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage that conforms to California state law.
Possession of a valid First Aid Certificate. Evidence of a negative TB test every four years.
Passing of a pre-employment basic skills test.
SALARY RANGE: Range 18 on the Classified Unit Salary Schedule
