Sacramento City Unified seeks a principal to lead Bowling Green McCoy Elementary in its mission to create proficiency for all children. Bowling Green McCoy Elementary has been a dependent charter school since 1993. Bowling Green McCoy’s focus is on looping with students in grades 2 – 5, staying with the same teacher for two years. The learning community focus is on the development of a balanced rigorous curriculum and the development of social character. The social skills curriculum includes teaching students how to resolve conflict, how to employ Social Emotional Learning character strengths, and how to believe that if you work hard you can get smarter. Teachers support students by providing them a safe learning environment. Students are expected to meet Common Core State Standards at all grade levels. Students are moved from knowledge to higher order thinking by having them prove and disprove their responses providing evidence of their thinking process. Bowling Green McCoy is one of two learning communities that make up the Bowling Green Charter School. McCoy’s student body is made up of approximately 422 students, reflecting a student body of 48% Hispanic/Latino, 23% African American, 21% Asian, and 8% Other. Between the two campuses, 89% of its students are from socio-economically disadvantaged households, 48% are English Learners, and 15% receive Special Education services. Bowling Green McCoy’s new principal is expected to be well versed with charter law, operations, finances and its LCAP. Furthermore, the new principal will need to address areas of concern surrounding low performance in English Language Arts and Mathematics across several student groups.
