Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Communications
o Develops, implements, and manages a comprehensive annual communications/marketing plan and calendar;
o Works in collaboration to the CEO/President to develop, edit and manage editorial content for Fortune School News;
o Develop, edit and manage editorial content for websites, social media and special publications;
o Provide strategic counsel to senior management, principals and board of directors on communications and marketing strategies; and,
o Develops and monitors the department’s budget.
• Marketing Outreach
o Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote awareness of FSE’s mission and educational programs;
o Represents FSE in the community, at public events and at school sites;
o Works closely with the CEO/President and Chief of Staff on all activities and events necessary to maintain a positive image;
o Collaborates with internal customers to assess program marketing needs, target audiences, messaging and positioning; and,
o Reviews every publication, advertisement, and photo to ensure brand compatibility and standards conformity.
• Student Recruitment
o Work closely with the admissions team to devise strategies to promote recruitment, retention programs, and achievements;
o Ensures integrated work and communication between all education programs, admissions, recruiting, principals, school secretaries, and parent liaisons;
o Meet and/or exceeds budgeted recruitment targets;
o Create innovative programs, events and campaigns to generate awareness, build waitlist, and drive campus recruiting efforts resulting in prospective student conversion; and,
o Provide leadership, inspiration and coaching to a smart, ambitious recruiting team; hire, lead, manage, develop, and mentor team members.
• Civic Engagement
o Coordinate the event planning and execution of FSE’s Annual Advocacy Day.
o Works in collaboratively with the California Charter Schools Association (CCSA) to promote Charter Nation initiatives.
o Supports the CEO/President’s advocacy work with CCSA, community-based organizations, and other entities.
Supervises
• Recruiting Specialist, Admissions Counselor, and Web Content & Social Media Specialist (3)
o Staff community events, generate and follow-up on recruitment leads, manage student recruitment campaigns, convert all incomplete applications to complete, conduct presentations for head starts and preschools, and other duties necessary to meet recruitment targets, including door-to-door canvassing, home visits, and phone banking.
o Update and maintain social media, website updates, events calendars, assist at community events as necessary, helps to develop content for publications, and assists with coordinating communication/marketing calendar.
• Communications & Marketing w/Contracted Service Providers
o The Director of Marketing & Communications will manage the contract and relationship with contracted service providers. The contracted services providers for graphic design, crisis communications, print production, website management and publishers.
• Seasonal Recruiters – Seasonal Staff (3 - 5)
o Assist with the annual summer/fall recruitment push beginning the Thursday after the last day of school and ending on the Fall Census Date in October of the same year.
Marketing & Communications Internal Partners
• Principals, School Secretaries, Parent Liaisons
o Conduct enrollment meetings;
o Disseminate enrollment information;
o Collect enrollment leads; and,
o Collect application packets and supporting documents.
• Admissions & Enrollment Team
o Process enrollment documents;
o Update enrollment spreadsheets;
o Maintain enrollment targets;
o Maintain student persistence rate at 80 percent or higher;
o Co-Train on enrollment & recruitment updates; and,
o Communicate enrollment status to parents.
Marketing & Communications Internal Customers
Marketing & Communications provides:
• Higher Education Teacher Coordinator & Recruiter
o Mass marketing materials (flyers, advertisements, etc.);
o Engages in recruitment planning and development;
o Social media and website updates; and,
o Publications and alumni newsletters.
• School Sites
o Social media and website updates;
o Mass marketing materials related to student recruitment, retention & enrollment; and,
o Service learning and civic engagement projects.
• Human Resources
o Mass marketing materials related to vacancies (flyers, advertisements, etc.);
o Social media and website updates; and,
o Publications.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher

• Ability to climb stairs, bend, reach, walk, sit and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and carry 10 pounds.
