BILINGUAL (Spanish) TRANSLATOR/INTERPRETER @ District Wide at Mt. Diablo Unified
Requirements / Qualifications
POSITION: Under direction, provides oral interpretation and written translations in English and a language other than English; provides technical assistance in editing and correcting documents in a language other than English; coordinates information on persons available to provide translation in a number of languages to district and schools; assists in screening the oral and written language skills of students and applicants for classified bilingual positions. Support is needed for Spanish-speaking students. ----------------------------------------- Please see job description ----------------------------------------- SELECTION PROCEDURE: All applicants are required to take and pass the written examination scheduled above. Areas covered on the examination are math, English usage, spelling, filing, English to Spanish translation, and timed typing,. Calculators may be used on the examination but will not be provided. Typing certificates for 45 wpm net, within the last six months, will be accepted (online/web certificates will not be accepted) or applicants may take timed typing test at exam. If submitting a certificate, it must be submitted with application, by final filing date. ------------------------------------------ EXAMINATION INFORMATION: LOCATION: Computer Lab; Willow Creek Center, 1026 Mohr Lane, Concord; DATE: tbd TIME: Please come at least 10 minutes prior to the testing time. (test time approximately 2-2½ hours); no admittance once testing begins. Applicants will be contacted for the date and time of examination. REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must possess the knowledge and skill required for successful job performance as follows: TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: • Any combination of training and experience equivalent to an Associate of Arts degree and at least two (2) years' experience in translating and interpreting school-related materials and/or materials from other public service organizations. KNOWLEDGE OF: • Standard office clerical and secretarial procedures, machines, and equipment • Correct oral and written usage of English and a language other than English • Proofreading and editing • Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned duties • Language and culture of the community for which English is a second language SKILL IN: • Establishing and maintaining effective and working relationships with other district personnel and the public • Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information • Understanding and following both oral and written directions ABILITY TO: • Communicate effectively with adults and students • Interpret simultaneously and translate correctly, concisely in both English and a language other than English •Read and write effectively in idiomatic English and a language other than English • Speak in public meetings • Prepare translated materials in an accurate and precise typewritten form • Use dictionaries and other research resources necessary to accurately complete translation of documents • Understand, communicate and be sensitive to the needs of school and district personnel, students, and parents ------------------------------------------
