St. Albans seeks a dynamic Spanish teacher who inspires students to learn a foreign language. Candidate must be fluent in Spanish, have a strong knowledge of Spanish grammar and vocabulary, have experience with comprehensible input, and have training in second language instruction. Candidates should be passionate about teaching and celebrating Spanish language and culture and should be committed to collaborating with colleagues. Candidates should have successful teaching experience in lower, middle or high school and should be comfortable using a blended approach based on ACTFL's standards and conducting classes exclusively in Spanish. Requirements: • Bachelor's degree and a valid California teaching credential. • Successful experience teaching in classroom settings. • Teaches students to fluently speak, read and write in the Spanish language. Must also be able to teach grammar skills. • Is comfortable teaching with a variety of instructional materials including but not limited to textbooks, project based learning units, music, and novels. Can also use comprehensible input strategies. • Understand Spanish standards from a variety of surrounding high schools to ensure graduating students are prepared to enter advanced high school Spanish classes. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish is required. • Collaborates well with colleagues on curricular alignment and instructional strategies. • Encourages collaborative teamwork in the classroom, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully. • Demonstrates professional behavior, including discretion, judgment and integrity. • All prospective employees must be able to clear a background check, LiveScan fingerprinting and TB screening. The Spanish teacher is responsible for planning and implementing lesson plans, evaluating students, and providing special assistance as necessary for grades 5-8. The teacher needs to be aware of high school requirements and thus should prepare students for the high school curriculum accordingly. The position is Monday-Thursday from 8:15 am to 3:30 pm. Two after-school meetings per month are required.
