Special Education Instructional Aide at Lifeline Education Charter School
Requirements / Qualifications
DESCRIPTION (DEFINITION & DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS): Under the direction of the Special Education Coordinator, provide instructional support and assistance to the teacher and students assigned to a designated special education instructional program; perform a variety of supportive activities related to classroom instruction and behavior management of students; provide a variety of clerical support duties related to classroom and program activities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (EXAMPLE OF DUTIES): • Tutor individuals or small groups of special education students, reinforcing instruction in reading, math, language arts, and other subjects as directed. • Prepare instructional materials as directed; review worksheets, workbooks, and other assignments to evaluate student comprehension of concepts presented. • Assist in maintaining files, attendance, and student records and folders as required. • Assist the instructional staff in supervising students inside and outside the classroom; direct group activities of students as assigned. • Prepare students for mainstreamed classes according to established procedures. • Provide support to Special Education Coordinator and/or classroom teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating audio visual equipment, operating educational training equipment, and distributing paper and supplies. • Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, and general guidance. • Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly learning environment. • Participate in meets and in-service training programs as assigned. • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Comments and Other Information
QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):
• Must demonstrate a mastery of higher level (critical) thinking skills and the ability to implement lessons in a small group setting.
• Current enrollment in a good standing in an accredited institute of higher education and one (1) of the following:
o Completed 48 semester credits
o Completed an AA degree
o Passed the District Instructional Aide Test OR
o Bachelor’s Degree (does not have to be currently enrolled in school)
