Requirements / Qualifications

Position Title: Lead Induction Mentor Department: Bright Star Schools Reports to: Director of Teacher Induction and Development Position Summary: The Bright Star Schools Lead Instructional Mentor is a leadership and instructional coaching role, and will provide differentiated support for up to 12 new teachers in up to 4 different schools across the organization to increase their effectiveness on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession, to increase their effectiveness on the CSTP continuum. The individual will also support new teachers in creating and implementing their individual learning plan and CA induction state requirements. Additionally, this individual will assist in the development of the Greater Los Angeles Schools Teacher Induction Consortium including planning and executing professional development for both Mentor teachers and participating teachers. QUALIFICATIONS: Clear Teaching Credential Knowledge & Experience Successfully Mentoring New and/or Struggling Teachers Trained in mentoring and/or instructional coaching (completed NTC training desired) Proven track record of effective teaching Teacher is reflective about using data and uses it to guide instruction, including re-teaching Positive attitude Strong interpersonal and professional development skills Openness to extending professional knowledge and skill 4 + years of full-time classroom teaching experience

SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED: Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing standards-based instruction, assessment and methods that improve student achievement in the classroom Ability to innovate teaching methodologies Ability to collaborate and maintain confidential relationships with administrators and teachers Experience related to adult learning (coaching, professional development, mentoring, co-teaching) Demonstrated commitment to personal and professional growth and learning within a consortium community of practice Willingness to engage in non-evaluative, reflective conversations with teachers using evidence of classroom practice and student learning Evidence of excellent oral, written and technology skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills, facility with and daily use of mentoring language Proficiency in maintaining and managing regular communication and documentation Optimism for potential of teachers and schools to effect change in the academic lives of students Ability to stay positive during times of stress Strong time management skills and willingness to put in extra time to further new teachers’ growth -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
