JOB GOAL: To teach Physical Education to students
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaches skills in physical education, physical fitness and individual and team sports.
- Instructs pupils in good citizenship and development of individual responsibility.
- Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program, adapting schedules to accommodate weather conditions and to provide item for changing clothes, showers, instruction, exercise and sports activities.
- Demonstrates basic skills needed for team sports, explains rules, reviews game situations and teaches fundamentals of body movement needed for the best performance.
- Provides small group instruction when pupils need extra help, if scheduling permits.
- Emphasizes appropriate safety instruction and recommends safety checks of equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils.
- Maintains surveillance over care, use and storage of district owned items such as lockers, locks, equipment and supplies to prevent loss or abuse. May use student monitors or locker room attendants when appropriate and when available.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
- Evaluates each pupil's growth in physical fitness and in physical skills and knowledge. Assesses each individual's contribution to the performance of the group in team sports.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education workshops and clinics provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Selects and orders new equipment and supplies as needed and maintains appropriate inventory records. Disposes of old and worn out items of equipment.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on individual pupil's progress.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.

4. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone.
5. Manual dexterity to carry out the functions of the above essential responsibilities.
6. Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly.
7. Ability to bend, reach and walk.
