Job Summary
BASIC FUNCTION: Under direction of a Speech-Language Pathologist, assist in providing instruction specific to the area of speech and language communication to students identified as having special needs. The Speech and Language Pathology Assistant provides instructional support to students specifically identified with verbal communication impairments. These students may also have learning, physical, emotional or other identified disabilities. Incumbents in this classification will perform a broad range of educational support activities, with primary emphasis on specialized speech and language assistance. Incumbents will assist in attending to the care and well being of students with a variety of physical and mental impairments and may be assigned to a single student or group in a classroom, learning center or community setting.
Requirements / Qualifications
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid certifications provided by American Heart Association, American Red Cross or Save A Life for First Aid, Adult/Child CPR and AED. Online certifications will be accepted from these vendors as long as a hands-on skills assessment is completed. Recertification to maintain current/valid status is a condition of employment. Valid registration as Speech-Language Pathology Assistant with California Speech-Language Pathology Board.
*The current vacancy is 30hrs per week - 9.5 months. It is benefits eligible* EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Associate’s degree in speech language pathology assistant or • Bachelor’s degree in speech language pathology or communicative disorders AND One year experience working with students of various age levels requiring a specialized learning environment.
