Applications are now being accepted for the position of Learning Disabilities Specialist, Disability Support Programs and Services (DSPS) at the District Administrative Offices, CalWORKs restricted contract.

 

While the current adjunct position is at the District Office, applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment at any District facility at the option of the Chancellor.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

Under the direction of the Director, DSPS, the adjunct will be responsible for the provision of assessment for CalWORKs clients with possible learning disabilities. The assignment includes: providing assessment for learning disabilities using the California Community College Eligibility Model; evaluating clients’ academic strengths and weaknesses; discussing test interpretation and recommended accommodations with clients; consulting with CalWORKs personnel regarding implementation of accommodations and strategies for potential work; maintaining related records for completed assessment and services provided to clients; representing DSPS at meetings and District functions as needed; and, other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions.

Applicants for this position must show evidence of meeting the following minimum qualifications:

The minimum qualifications for providing credit specialized instruction for students with learning disabilities [Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in learning disabilities, special education, education, psychology, educational psychology, or rehabilitation counseling; AND, fifteen (15) semester units of upper division or graduate study in Learning Disabilities]; OR,

Possession of a California Community College Disabled Student Programs & Services Credential with a specialization in Learning Disabilities that is valid for life; OR,

The equivalent; AND,

Successful completion of the California Community College Chancellor’s Office “Learning Disabilities Eligibility Model Training”

 

Desired Qualifications:

 

The successful candidate shall demonstrate:

 

Completion of the California Community College Chancellor’s Office “Learning Disabilities Eligibility Model Training” OR verified professional training on one or more of the following assessment instruments: Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS III or WAIS IV), Woodcock Johnson III or Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT II).

 

Recent experience, in an educational setting, administering and interpreting the WAIS IV, Woodcock Johnson III, WIAT II, and other applicable assessment instruments.

 

Knowledge and application of appropriate work and instructional strategies and methodologies for students with learning disabilities.

 

Ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team providing support to clients with learning disabilities.

 

Knowledge and application of technology for the purpose of assessment, recordkeeping and instruction.

 

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

 

Effective interpersonal communication skills.

 

Experience working with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

 

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

 

Effective organizational skills and the ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.

 

Licenses:

 

[If possess] California Community College Disabled Student Programs & Services Credential with a specialization in Learning Disabilities that is valid for life

 

[If possess] Certificate of completion: California Community College Chancellor’s Office “Learning Disabilities Eligibility Model Training”

 

Pay Information:

 

At the time that an offer of assignment is made, proper salary placement is contingent upon receipt of OFFICIAL (sealed) transcripts and Verifications of Previous Work Experience (if applicable). Instructors with advanced coursework and/ or experience shall be placed on the appropriate class and step on the Adjunct College Salary Schedules, effective the first month following receipt (in Human Resources) of the official transcripts and Verifications of Previous Work Experience (if applicable). Initial salary placement will be at the first class/step until all required documentation has been submitted.
