Job Summary

The San Diego Unified School District is seeking candidates with enthusiasm for and interest in the Painter position. The Painter performs journey-level skilled painting work on school buildings, furniture, equipment, and other district facilities; provides lead and direction on assigned projects.

Requirements / Qualifications

This is a Promotional/Open Opportunity. Any interested candidates may apply. Current monthly-salaried employees that successfully pass the examination process receive precedence over other candidates on the eligible lists. OSS Salary Grade: 048 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to completion of a recognized painting apprentice training program and two years of recent, full-time, paid diversified journey-level painting experience. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid California driver's license and availability of private transportation (mileage expense allowance provided). Possession of hand tools common to the trade. Personality and character suitable for working in schools. NOTE: All applicants must acquire and maintain a Lead Related Construction certificate within their first year of employment in this classification and maintain the certificate during their employment as a painter per California State law. Applicants must successfully pass and complete a medical respiratory physical examination including a blood level test (BLL) annually. Employees are required to wear a respirator and protective clothing during spray paint activities and while conducting activities which may expose them to any hazard. Positions in this job class receive a hazard pay additive of approximately 5% for hazardous materials and lead-related work. This additive is included in the basic salary grade placement.
