Resource Specailist Program Teacher

DEFINITION:  Under the supervision of the school principal and the Coordinator of Special Education, the RSP teacher will provide special instruction to individual and small groups of elementary pupils who have been identified as qualifying for RSP services at each school site.

 

The RSP teacher will be responsible for coordinating all interventions with general education staff through a variety of means, including attending Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings to support identified students in the general and special education environments. The teacher will be responsible for working with the site principal on ongoing adjustments of the program.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

 

  • Establish and maintain Resource Specialist Program to serve pupils whose needs are more intensive than can be met in the regular classroom with modification and who qualify under federal and state law.

 

  • Coordinate and participate in the identification, assessment, and instructional planning process for exceptional pupils.

 

  • Write common core based annual goals for Individual Educational Plans for the students on Resource caseload, after obtaining input from appropriate personnel.

 

  • Assist in the coordination of instruction and services to implement individual student's instructional plans.

 

  • Provide consultation and support services to general education classroom teachers and families for pupils on the Resource Specialist caseload.

 

  • Arrange for and conduct appropriate assessment needed to define pupils' specific learning needs and provide specialized areas of instruction to move students towards accessing the core curriculum in the shortest period of time.

 

  • Monitor pupil progress on a regular basis and present assessment data and proposed instructional plans for approval, revision, or modification.

 

  • Provide inservice training regarding exceptional pupils, operation of the Resource Specialist Program and methods and materials appropriate to meeting pupils' individual needs.

 

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by either of the above administrators.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Credentials:  Mild/Moderate Education Specialist credential, Multiple Subject credential

Experience:   Three years of successful classroom teaching (preferably at more than one grade level) is desired.
