POSITION: The HVAC Technician works under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment; may be assigned to perform semiskilled and skilled functions in other trade areas.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from High School supplemented by coursework or training in modern HVAC systems, and two years of journey level experience as an HVAC technician.
SALARY: $24.94-$32.00 per hour
SCHEDULE: 8 hours per day; 246 work days per year (12 months)

SELECTION PROCESS:
STEP I: After the application deadline date, applications are reviewed to determine those candidates who meet position qualifications.
STEP II: Those candidates who meet position qualifications will be invited to test. Test scores of 70% and above are considered passing, and those applicants will be placed on an eligibility list.
STEP III: The District will schedule interviews as eligible candidates are added to the list of qualified candidates.
PRIOR TO HIRE: Prior to start in a position, the District will obtain verification of the applicant’s freedom from tuberculosis; fingerprint the individual for processing by State and Federal agencies and receive the agencies’ report; and obtain a physical examination. (District paid)

HVAC TECHNICIAN
BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment; may be assigned to perform semiskilled and skilled functions in other trade areas.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Installs, repairs, maintains a variety of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment, refrigeration systems, ducts and vents E; build control systems, energy management control systems and central monitoring stations E, balances air supplies E; installs, repairs, maintains, fabricates valves, fans, motors, switches, gaskets, filters, belts, fuses, controls, thermostats, dampers, pumps, gauges, tubing, pipe, and related HVAC equipment E; maintains and makes repairs to heaters, steam pressure vessels, boilers, and other steam equipment E; repairs and maintains major appliances such as domestic and commercial refrigerators, freezers, ovens, stoves, warming/refrigeration carts, water heaters, including repair of gas and conveyance convection lines E; provides response and corrective action for urgent building operational items, indoor air quality, classroom environment parameters and environmental issues E, tests joints, insulates pipe, utilizes a wide variety of tools, equipment, and test devices common to the HVAC trade E; rewires, brazes, rebuilds, modifies existing equipment and systems E; plans, maintains, and schedules a preventive maintenance program including lubrications of parts and cleaning or replacement of filters E; plans, lays-out own work and that of assigned helpers, directs work of assigned helpers E; makes frequent inspection of HVAC equipment to ensure operational efficiency E; communicates with District personnel regarding heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment operation and malfunctions E; liaisons with other consultants, contractors, inspectors and suppliers on maintenance and project work E, makes reports E; inventories, requisitions materials and supplies E; perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Methods, techniques, materials, and tools used in HVAC systems and equipment; Rules, regulations, and operational procedures pertaining to the installation, repair, maintenance of HVAC systems; Pipefitting, sheetmetal, electrical, welding/brazing skills used in skilled HVAC work; Safe working methods and procedures.
Ability to:
Perform skilled work in the installation, repair, modification and maintenance of a wide variety of HVAC systems and equipment; Work from blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches; Maintain simple records and prepare reports;
Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Instruct, lead work of assigned helpers; Estimate time, materials and cost needed to complete assigned tasks; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from High School supplemented by coursework or training in modern HVAC systems, and two years of journey level experience as an HVAC technician.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid California Driver's License; Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier.

Climbing ladders; Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; Lifting heavy objects; Seeing to perform work;
