Job Summary
PURPOSE: The School Counselor supports the total educational program at MVCS by overseeing the Resource Department, providing ed/psych support to the classroom and families, and promotes whole-hearted learning (SEL) on a push-in and pull-out basis. REPORTS TO: Assistant Principal DUTIES: ED/PSYCH: - Urgent/daily situations that arise with students/parents who need professional guidance through meetings/phone calls, etc. This would include teacher referrals, parent requests - Support teachers with action plans / accommodations - Counsel students as needed - Conduct behavioral observations RESOURCE DEPARTMENT: - Oversee SSTs 6th - 8th Grade - Oversee behavior focused K-8 Grade SSTs - Support families and teachers as needed - SST students: follow up with students and teachers to ensure that accommodations are being followed or if teachers/students need additional support. Share any findings with the Assistant Principal in the weekly department meetings. This can include observations in the classroom of those students who are of concern. WHOLE HEARTED LEARNING: - Develop, in coordination with the administration, the framework for Whole-Hearted Learning (SEL) education - Conduct Whole-Hearted Learning (SEL) lessons in the classroom - Collaborate with the Spiritual Director about communication being sent to parents that has an overlay of biblical teachings from the classroom - Parent education/enrichment - Provide direct skill instruction through small groups as needed (ex. friendship groups) QUALIFICATIONS: - Be a born-again Christian who maintains a lifestyle consistent with the moral standards stated in the Personnel handbook - Minimum of B.A. in Psychology or related field - 5 years of related experience within a school environment - Team player and servant leader with strong organizational and interpersonal skills - Hours: Full-time, modified summer hours
