Job Title: Principal, Elementary School Job Purpose Statements: Under the direction of the Superintendent, serves as the educational leader of the school and is responsible for supervision of the instructional program, operation of the school plant, evaluation of staff, and the management of student activities; receive, distribute and communicate information to enforce school, District and State policies; maintains safety of school environment; communicates information to staff; and addresses situations, problems and/or conflicts that could negatively impact the school. Management Team Relationships: 1. Directly responsible to Superintendent/Designee. 2. Directly responsible for the evaluation of all employees assigned to the school staff. Essential Job Functions: 1. Implements State laws, Board policies, Administrative Regula¬tions, and contract provisions at the school site. 2. Directs assigned staff members to carry out an effective in¬structional program through conferences, meetings, bulletins, inservice training, and regular classroom and job site obser¬vations. 3. Delegates responsibility for various administrative functions to Assistant Principal and other personnel for the purpose of managing the workload more efficiently. 4. Supervises instructional personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of school’s curriculum. 5. Directs the educational activities of the school by implementing the prescribed instructional curriculum, effective methods to meet the established standards, and the use/control of equipment. 6. Administers the school activities, guides the organization and operation of student clubs, government, and special events. 7. Directs the workload of assigned personnel (classified, certifi¬cated, and volunteers); reviews and approves departmental bud¬gets; maintains records required to meet State and District needs. 8. Inspects the plant regularly and reports any defect or inade¬quacy of facilities or equipment affecting health and safety standards; reports promptly any danger or damage to property, stolen property. 9. Submits a report on any student or employee accident as soon as possible. and reports immediately by phone any serious injury to staff members or students. 10. Maintains accurate records of attendance of all staff members, sick leave requests, and other forms required by policy. 11. Notifies the Superintendent/Designee when away from school site for full day(s). 12. Directs the requisitioning and distribution of supplies and equipment. 13. Notifies Human Resources Development of any vacancy of staff and assists in the employment of staff and recommends personnel changes to be made at the school. 14. Directs the development of the master schedule of classes, including the teaching assignments and class loads. 15. Works effectively with community and parent groups, local agencies, and other related organizations. 16. Evaluates personnel for the purpose of ensuring standards are achieved and performance is maximized. 17. Performs other related duties as assigned. 18. Facilitates communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts. 19. Manages school administrative functions (i.e. facility maintenance, budget, staffing, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient school operations within district guidelines. 20. Prepares various written documents (e.g. correspondence, reports, analyses, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information. 21. Presents information on various topics for the purpose of communicating information and gaining feedback. 22. Represents the school within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to school environment. 23. Processes student disciplinary actions, personnel actions and/or related matters for the purpose of documenting such actions and adhering to district policies and/or education code. 24. Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions (e.g. personnel, equipment, disciplinary issues, etc.) for the purpose of providing district personnel with direction and/or data for decision making. Job Requirements-Qualifications: Certifications: -Valid credential authorizing services as a California school administrator. -Valid teaching credential. Experience Required: -Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience preferred; experience in implementing the concepts of teaching of literacy; experience in working with a diverse student population; prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility in school setting. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Skills, knowledge to appropriately manage personnel and programs, communicate effectively, problem solve. Knowledge of curriculum, education code, district policies. Knowledge of implementation of state frameworks and appropriate instructional strategies. Abilities to sit for prolonged periods, provide direction to others and make independent judgments, keep and maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds, communicate in oral and written form. Experience in working with culturally and linguistically diverse student population. Ability to supervise and evaluate staff, including teachers and support personnel.
