San Jose Unified School District San Jose, California Title: Director, Curriculum and Instruction Reports to: Associate Superintendent, Educational Services Supervises: Program Mangers in Curriculum and Library Resources, Categorical, and Technology Job Goal: To direct the development, coordination, articulation, and evaluation of the District’s K-12 Curriculum and its supporting elements: categorical programs, libraries, instructional materials, and instructional technology. Performance Responsibilities: Be knowledgeable of current practices and future trends in curriculum and instruction. Develop a comprehensive district model for K-12 curriculum that supports State requirements and meets District needs. Review, revise, and modify curriculum according to the needs of the students and the Board of Education guidelines. Identify and assist sites in implementing appropriate K-12 curricular programs and instructional strategies that result in increased student achievement, that integrate multi-culturalism, and that support the learning of English. Coordinate the District’s core curriculum with curriculum for students with special needs, including special education, English language learners, and GATE . Assist the assessment department in designing appropriate tools for evaluating student achievement. Assist the assessment department in evaluating the success of curricular programs . Work directly with schools to assess and provide for curricular and instructional needs. Oversee categorical programs and monitor their compliance with Federal and State guidelines. Oversee and monitor Program Quality Reviews and Coordinated Compliance Reviews. Coordinate staff development with other departments in educational services. Seek and apply for grant funding and monitor grant implementation and reporting. Maintain the district course base and monitor site course bases. Direct the selection and adoption of instructional materials, library collections, and instructional software. Oversee the district and site libraries.
