COMPENSATION: 
Initial salary placement ranges from $53,955 to $84,493, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $113,197. A District-paid comprehensive benefit package which includes medical, dental and vision insurances for the employee and dependents, and a $50,000 employee life insurance policy are provided. Representative Duties:
Provide professional, academic/vocational, personal and disability-related counseling. E

Verify student eligibility for DSPS programs and services. E

identify functional limitations. E

Determine reasonable accommodations. E

Develop individual education plans. E

Provide and document appropriate services. E

Refer students to other appropriate services. E

Work with appropriate personnel in meetings the federal requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, 504 regulations Title 5 guidelines governing the implementation of AB77, and all other laws that pertain to access for persons with disabilities in higher education. E

Maintain liaison with appropriate community agencies. E

Participate in program, curriculum and staff development activities, and serve on area and college-wide committees as necessary to support and enrich the instructional program. E

Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues. E

Administer and interpret LD (Learning Disability) testing instruments. E

Promote the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials, and effective teaching methodologies. E

Provide critical feedback on all assignments. E


Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
The minimum qualifications for service as a community college counselor of students with disabilities shall be satisfied by meeting one of the following requirements;

  1. Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, OR
  2. Master's degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); and either fifteen or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work specifically related to people with disabilities, or completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a postsecondary Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) Program or in a program dealing predominantly or exclusively with people with disabilities, or two years of fulltime experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following;
  • (A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or 
  • (B) Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities of the position were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent.

Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
LD (Learning Disability) Certification and/or experience in administering and interpreting LD tests.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations.
