The Reed Union School District (RUSD) is an elementary district serving the southern Marin communities of Belvedere, Tiburon, and a portion of east Corte Madera. Its three school sites are located in Tiburon: Reed School - PreKindergarten through second grade; Bel Aire School - grades 3, 4 and 5; and Del Mar Middle School - grades 6, 7 and 8. District enrollment is approximately 1,050 students, with class size averaging typically 23-24 students. RUSD graduates attend high school in the Tamalpais Union High School District, as well as private schools in Marin County and San Francisco.

REED UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT POSITION DESCRIPTION Classroom Instructional Aide I. Overview The Classroom Instructional Aide, under the supervision of the classroom teacher and the principal, assists the classroom teacher in the delivery of the classroom program by supervising students, providing large or small group instruction or individual assistance, performing routine tasks and other related work. The Classroom Instructional Aide supports the teacher in better meeting the individual needs of students. II. Responsibilities A. Assist classroom teachers: • Confer with classroom teacher. • Observe students in their classroom setting. • Assist classroom teacher in providing direct instruction. • Assist with student supervision. • Prepare materials for general classroom program. • Assist in maintaining student records and work files. • Check work folders as needed. • Determine individual needs of students. B. Attend Classroom Instructional Aide meetings: • Participate in methods of determining staff development needs of Classroom Aides. • Attend other staff development training sessions, as required C. Work with students: • Work with large and/or small groups as needed. • Work with individual students as directed by classroom teacher. • Use appropriate methods and materials. • Request instructional materials and supplies as needed. D. Communicate with parents: • Work with parent volunteers. • Maintain confidentiality of student and school information. E. Provide recess supervision: • Supervise playground play • Become familiar with and implement playground safety rules and the school discipline policy. • Know basic first aid procedures. F. Crossing Guard duties: • Assume Crossing Guard duties as assigned. • Participate in Crossing Guard training. III. Requirements A. Previous experience in working with children preferred. B. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. C. Acquisition of a First Aid certificate, including training in CPR. IV. Qualifications A. Knowledge of: • English language and usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation and basic math. B. Ability to: • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, parents and community members. • Learn the school rules and procedures and apply the school discipline policy. • Safely supervise students. • Maintain punctuality and regular attendance. • Promote positive school image. V. Evaluation The evaluation process involves both the classroom teacher and the principal. A self-assessment can be included.
