COLLEGE TUTOR

 

 

DEFINITION

Under supervision, to perform a variety of instructional and record keeping duties designed to support the instructor in the instructional programs; and to do related work as required.

 

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

The class of College Tutor is distinguished from the class of Instructional Aide in that the College Tutor’s work emphasis is on short range instructional support to individual and small groups of students under the close guidance of the teacher; individuals are expected to be in this class only during the time they are full time students, according to the provisions of Education Code Section 45256.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Works with individual students or small groups of students according to instructions and guidance from a teacher in the planning, organization, and implementation of programs in physical education, the fine arts (i.e. music, art, drama), vocational and industrial arts (i.e. homemaking, shops), and in such other areas as to supplement the instruction of students with specific needs; tutors in basic skill development areas and/or concept instruction; administers pre/post placement test, and assists in the development of the daily program for the participants; records and monitors student progress; may operate equipment; utilizes instructional materials available in the program; gains rapport with, and encourages motivation in students through understanding of the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth patterns of students; and to do related work as required.  Some positions in this class may require the ability to speak, read, and/or write a second language as determined by the District.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge of:

Good English usage, spelling and mathematics.  Fluent in second language desirable.  Some knowledge of specialized fields as determined by needs of the District desirable.  Physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth patterns of students.

 

Ability to:

Establish and maintain effective relationships with adults and students.  Work with individuals and small groups of students.  Understand and follow oral and written directions.

 

Education:

High school graduation or successful completion of G.E.D. test.  Registration as a full-time college student (12 semester units or its equivalent in quarter units).

 

Experience:

Recent experience, paid or volunteer, working with students desired.

 

Other:

Must be at least 18 years of age.  Possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License.  Use of car desired.

      Temporary 2023/2024 School Year Monday through Friday 3.95 hours per day/10 mos. Hours may vary between 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Funding for this position does not allow for overtime and/or benefits to be paid.
