Job Summary

Under supervision of site administrator, perform specialized work related to sign language interpretation for facilitating communication between deaf and hard-of-hearing students and educators; utilize sign language systems between hearing impaired students, educators, and other students. Positions in this class are established to facilitate communication between deaf and hard-of-hearing students and educators through the use of sign language. Primary duties involve working with hearing impaired students who require use of sign language to interpret instruction of educators in classes, on the school campus, and various community settings at varying sign language competency levels of students. *This position averages 27.5 hours per week*

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Possession of a High School Diploma or a GED AND Any combination equivalent to: Completion of at least 48 semester units OR 72 quarter units of study at an institution of higher education (college level) OR obtained an associate's (or higher) degree. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid certification issued by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment, the Educational Sign Skills Evaluation-Interpreter, or the National Association of the Deaf/American Consortium of Certified Interpreters assessment as required under California State Law.

All application materials must be submitted with a VCOE application as a complete package. A complete application package must include the following:

  • Certification (Certification issued by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment, the Educational Sign Skills Evaluation-Interpreter, or the National Association of the Deaf/American Consortium of Certified Interpreters assessment as required under California State Law.)
  • Copy of Transcript (Transcripts showing Completion of at least 48 semester units OR 72 quarter units of study at an institution of higher education (college level) OR obtained an associate's (or higher) degree.)
  • Letter of Introduction
  • Letter(s) of Recommendation (Minimum of 3 letters dated within the last 18 months [LETTERS MUST BE DATED])
  • Resume
