ACCOUNT CLERK II

DEFINITION
Under general supervision, performs varied and increasingly responsible accounting clerical work involved in the preparation of payrolls, accounts payable and receivable; assists in maintaining reviewing and preparing a variety of accounting and financial records and reports.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
An Account Clerk II performs a wide variety of journey-level accounting clerical duties requiring the application of accounting systems and procedures. Positions in this class are normally only assigned to the central accounting office where the accounting clerical work prepared by other offices in the District is audited, processed, and reviewed.
An Account Clerk III assumes functional responsibility for an accounting clerical activity such as, student body accounting, special education accounting, payroll, general accounting or accounts payable. The work of this class requires the frequent use of independent judgment in making decisions within established accounting systems and procedures and may involve the indirect supervision of lower-level accounting clerical staff.
An Account Clerk I performs entry-level repetitive accounting clerical work within established procedures and under immediate supervision. Positions in this class normally perform routine clerical tasks involved in the preparation of financial records that is subject to regular review and audit.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
General supervision is provided by higher-level accounting or administrative positions.
No supervision is exercised over District personnel.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Audits, posts, and maintains supportive payroll records involving changes, new employment, terminations, leaves of absence, time cards, W-2 and W-4 forms.
Audits, posts, and processes requests for payment in compliance with District accounting procedures.
Makes arithmetic computations and checks various statistical and accounting tables and reports.
Applies District personnel policies, collective bargaining agreements, and accounting policies and procedures to routine payroll questions.
Applies District accounting policies and procedures to routine accounts payable and receivable questions.
Responds to routine accounting questions from other District employees.
Prepares reports and processes accounting documents within established timelines and schedules.
Codes, verifies extensions, and checks for completeness, accuracy, and correctness.
Inputs a variety of accounting information through the use of a computer terminal.
Maintains records of expenditures, receivables, and other items.
Performs related duties as assigned.

CLASS QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Methods, practices, and terminology used in financial and statistical clerical work.
Ability to:
Operate a variety of office equipment including a personal computer, ten-key calculator, fax and copy machine.
Post and make arithmetic computations.
Perform a variety of responsible clerical accounting duties.
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers and the public.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Minimum Requirements:
One year of recent experience in keeping or working with financial or statistical records.
Desirable:
