The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary
The Information Technology Network Unit supports the work of the Orange County Department of Education and assists Orange County schools with their technology needs. We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual to serve as Network Engineer for IT's Network Unit. The selected candidate will work with vendors, clients, carriers, and technical staff on network implementation, optimization, and ongoing management. The Network Engineer will provide high-level support and technical expertise in networking technology, including LAN/WAN hardware, hubs, bridges, and routers. This position will also administer the operation of all LAN/WAN related network services according to company policies and procedures; coordinate and implement network software and hardware upgrades; troubleshoot and resolve LAN/WAN performance, connectivity, and related network problems to administer LAN/WAN security, antivirus, and spam control measures; and to install, configure, and support voice, data, and video equipment. This position visits a variety of work locations, including juvenile hall/probation sites. Selected candidate must pass an additional background clearance by the Probation Department. There is not remote work available for this position.

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a computer related field. • Three (3) years supporting a data or voice network.
