Job Summary

Job Summary

Under the direction of district office administration and across the various sites within the district, administer behavior management techniques specific to individuals with emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), or severe intellectual disabilities who are exhibiting aggressive behaviors; uses de-escalation techniques and controls stimuli in the learning environment that may trigger students; implements supportive interventions; and performs other related duties as assigned.

The ability to communicate in Spanish or Korean is preferred. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be screened through. If hired, position requires fingerprint background check by DOJ/FBI. Application must be completed with all attachments by the closing date of the position. Incomplete applications will be screened out. EDUCATION: Equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade and one of the following: 1) completion of at least two years of college/university study (48 semester units); OR 2) possession of an Associate of Arts degree; OR 3) a passing score on the CA Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). Some college-level course work related to this classification, such as Psychology, Child Development, Special Education or a related field is required. Participation in job-related training at the time of new hire into the position as required. EXPERIENCE: One year of experience working with special needs students in an instructional setting. Prior experience working with students who exhibit severe challenging behaviors that interfere with academic and social progress is highly desirable. Two years of education in psychology, child development, special education or a related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
