Under general supervision, perform specialized accounting and payroll clerical functions in
maintaining financial and statistical records, utilizing manual and computer-assisted processes; to
perform difficult and technical accounting and payroll clerical functions; and to do other related work
as required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs specialized and technical functions in assembling, analyzing, reconciling, tabulating, calculating,
verifying, and filing accounting, payroll, and fiscally related information and data
• Performs complex and technical fiscal and payroll record management operations related to one or more
specialized accounting or payroll functions
• Assists in revision, formulation, and implementation of accounting and payroll record management systems
and procedures
• Prepares trial balances and financial statements
• Establishes, posts, and maintains journals, ledgers, and a variety of other accounting and payroll records
• Operates a computer terminal, microcomputer, and other business office machines and equipment
• May perform lead functions within a specialized accounting, budget control, or payroll record management
system, which may include the preparation of technical and complex reports
• Interprets and provides information regarding routine legal mandates, policies, regulations, and operational
guidelines to District personnel
• Provides technical information to County, State, and Federal agencies
Knowledge of:
• Methods, practices and procedures of school district accounting and payroll record management
• Operation of manual and computer-assisted accounting and payroll record management systems
• Knowledge of spreadsheet software
• Modern office practices, procedures, and techniques
• Organization and planning methods, trends, techniques and practices
Ability to:
• Perform complex and technical accounting and payroll record management
• Prepare, review, and analyze accounting, budget control, and payroll files, records, summaries, and reports
• Perform double entry bookkeeping and elementary accounting
• Lead and advise accounting and payroll clerical personnel
• Ability to type and skillfully operate computer terminal and microcomputer equipment
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
• Use new equipment and technology as it becomes required to perform this job

Experience: • Three years of accounting/payroll related experience Education: • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by training or coursework in elementary accounting, bookkeeping and business office organizations and planning, or closely related fields

The East Whittier City School District provides educational opportunities (transitional kindergarten through eighth grade, including special education) for approximately 8,200 children. The District employs approximately 1,075 teachers, administrators and support staff. We have 13 schools which operate on a traditional school year schedule.
