DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A Special Day Class teacher for Emotionally Disturbed Students is a certificated member of the Rocklin Unified Education staff. A teacher in this classification conducts the educational and emotional program for children whose needs include support for emotional issues which interfere with their ability to learn. SUPERVISOR: Principal TYPICAL DUTIES: Comply with rules and regulations of the California Code of Education and the policies and procedures of the Rocklin Unified School District. Meet on a regular basis with parents or guardians of each student to work on parenting skills, family issues, and behavior contracts. Work closely as a team with all other members of the Emotionally Disturbed Program staff and Mental Health staff to develop program policies. Work closely with Mental Health and the Emotionally Disturbed Program staff to establish treatment plans, transfer family and student information, and participate in ongoing therapeutic group sessions in the classroom. Work closely with outside agencies (Police, Sheriff, Special Multi-Discipline Assessment and Referral Team (SMART), Children’s Protective Services (CPS), etc. Develop instruction for individual learners academically and socially as an ongoing process. Coordinate a regular class transition program for each child, who is ready to return to a regular school program, to insure appropriate integration opportunities. Participate in professional growth activities such as classes, staff meetings, and visitations. Requisition needed materials and supplies for ongoing needs and next succeeding fiscal year. Prepare reports uniformly required by the state and/or county. Comply with the rules and regulations set forth in the California Education Code, Title V, and Procedures and Policies of the Rocklin Unified School District as assigned. Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate the Individual Education Plan of each assigned student. Participate in all appropriate eligibility and planning meetings. Perform other related duties as required. Perform educational assessments. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: This teacher must possess a valid California Credential authorizing the holder to provide specialized services to students with severe emotional disabilities. Membership and dues in Rocklin Teachers Professional Association/CTA is required. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Teaching experience at various grade levels and with learning disabled students; Master’s Degree and/or post graduate course work. Knowledge and instructional methodologies and techniques associated with the Emotionally Disturbed child. Ability to teach children in grade levels and age ranges as assigned. Ability to counsel pupils for vocational training. Ability to work with parents and community. Ability to function as a positive, contributing member of an education team. Skill in administration, analysis, and interpretation of a variety of assessment measures. GOALS OF EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE: To teach students of various academic and age levels; counsel students in social, emotional, vocational, as well as academic curriculum areas; and provide continuous communication for parents and staff. DESCRIPTION OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medical Category I 1. Position requires normal physical strength and endurance for standing, sitting, bending, or walking. 2. Work assignments are normally located in a work environment with light physical work and requires light physical effort. 3. Lifting 25 pounds maximum or carrying any object weighing over 15 pounds.
