Speech Language Specialist
Class Definition: Confidential Certificated
Reports to: Director of Special Education
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides formal and informal assessment of communication abilities for students, explains results in a clear manner, and makes useful recommendations based on the child/student need.
- Plans and implements service delivery models and schedules in assigned sites.
- Provides service coordination for children/students, including planning, organizing and conducting meetings.
- Provides consultation services to Local Education Agency (LEA) staff, Education and families of children/students with communication disorders.
- Develops and maintains caseload schedule in assigned sites.
- Maintains records, data, and reports as required by the agency, districts, state and federal agencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of procedures and regulations governing exceptional children programs; skills in consultation with school and agency staff; skill in oral and written communication; ability to maintain accurate records; ability to learn about other education and education-related services and to establish cooperative relationships.
Training and Experience:
Completion of education in a Speech and Language Specialist program, possession or eligibility for a Speech Services credential, and three years of closely related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential Job Functions:
- Visual ability to read handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of various office equipment and machines.
- Able to operate office machines and equipment in a safe and effective manner
- Able to demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to operate a calculator, typewriter and/or keyboard.
- Able to conduct verbal conversation.
- Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels).
- Abel to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk.
- Able to sit for sustained periods of time.
- Able to climb slopes, stairs, steps, ramps and ladders.
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Able to carry up to 25 pounds.
- Able to exhibit full range of motion for:
- Shoulder external rotation and internal rotation
- Shoulder abduction and adduction
- Elbow flexion and extension
- Shoulder extension and flexion
- Back lateral flexion
- Hip flexion and extension
- Knee flexion
Term of Employment: 207 work days
