Job Summary

Job Summary

The Adult School Counselor supports students and staff in the High School Equivalency (HSE), High School Diploma (HSD), and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs at Sequoia Adult School. The school is located in Menlo Park, about 25 miles south of San Francisco. The candidate provides academic counseling to adult students across three programs, assessing their academic needs, providing intake orientations, ensuring they are placed appropriately, and assisting them in addressing barriers to learning. The Adult School Counselor works closely with adult school transition staff to support students as they transition to college, training or employment. In addition, the counselor provides socio-emotional counseling to students and provides access to community support. The person in this position collaborates with counselors at district high schools to support students transferring to adult school. The candidate also works closely with teachers and administration to monitor student progress and completions and to intervene as needed. The role also supports teachers in the programs by providing guidance and support on student issues, data collection, and credit tracking. This position requires evening work two nights a week and is part of the school’s leadership team.

Minimum: - B.A. (B.S.) - Valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential - School Counseling - Must be able to work two evening shifts per week 1 - 9 pm Preferred: - Bilingual in Spanish - Masters Degree - Valid California Teaching Credential in subjects relevant to HSD/HSE or teaching experience with adult learners - Three years of experience in adult schools or equivalent - Knowledge of adult education database systems such as ASAP and TOPSpro Enterprise - Knowledge of online learning platforms such as Edgenuity and Canvas All of the following documents are required for this position: Copy of Transcripts Copy of Credentials Letter of Introduction Letter(s) of Recommendation (Provide 3 letters of recommendation from within the past two years) Current Resume
