TEACHER – MIDDLE SCHOOL
JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT/S:
The job of “Teacher-Middle” is done for the purpose/s of facilitating student success in academics and interpersonal skills through academic courses of study and implementing District approved curriculum; documenting teaching and students addressing specific needs of students; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:
Site Administrator
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic and interpersonal skills through a defined course of study.
• Diagnoses student needs and provide various instructional techniques to allow for appropriate ability levels.
• Implements lesson plans for the purpose of implementing District and state curriculum guidelines.
• Prepares teaching materials and documentation, e.g., grades, attendance, etc. for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing written support and/or conveying information.
• Maintains a rich learning environment in his/her teaching station.
• Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments and/or skills, i.e., lab experiments, athletic techniques, etc. for the purpose of providing the students with the necessary skills to perform the tasks safely and/or accurately.
• Advises parents or legal guardians for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce classroom objectives in the home setting.
• Assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum.
• Assesses student for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration, i.e., student’s progress, expectations, goals, etc.
• Collaborates with school personnel, parents and community resources for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
• Monitors and supervise student activities, e.g., classroom, lunch, grounds, field trips, etc. for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Reports incidents, e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substances abuse, etc. for the purpose of maximizing students personal safety and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policies.
• Directs instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and ensuring that the needs of the students are met.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Networks with other teachers and school personnel for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, planning curriculum and/or providing information.
• Participates in various meetings, e.g., parent conferences, back-to-school, grade level and faculty, open house, in-service training, site meetings, school and district curriculum development, etc. for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information; and/or meeting credential requirements.
• Provide information to children and/or their parents about the Medi-Cal system and where and how to access applications.
• Copy and distribute Medi-Cal information to children and their families.
• Inform children and/or their parents about medical services available through school or in the local community.
• Refer children to medical services covered by Medi-Cal. (Part of SST process)
• Provide health related information to children and/or their parents.
• Identify at risk children and families and refer them to the proper agencies for services.
• Participate on committees whose focus is to expand services, identify needs or increase service utilization for health services to children.
• Prepare financial data and other data required for MAA claiming.
• Attend MAA Time Survey and ongoing MAA program policy/procedures meetings.
JOB REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience Required:
Prior job related experience.
• Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance.
Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code.
Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized tasks; maintain records; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel; meet schedules and deadlines. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/color vision/field of vision.
• Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required:
California Teaching Credential for appropriate level of instruction and/or subjects; TB Test clearance; Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance.
