Description of Extra Duties of Athletic Director
The credentialed employee who assumes the Athletic Director duties will be relieved of 1.00 FTE of his/her teaching assignment in order to assume the extra duties listed below:
General Responsibilities:
• To assist the principal/designee in coordinating the total athletic program at Gilroy High School.
• To serve as the educational leader and operational coordinator for the athletic program at Gilroy High School.
• To participate in maintaining a positive public image for all athletic programs and events for students at Gilroy High School.
• Implement a character program, i.e. Pursuing Victory with Honor and/or Positive Coaching Alliance.
• Serve as administrative designee at all sporting events, competitions and practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assists in the recruitment, selection and assignment of all athletic coaches and assistant coaches under the direction of the school principal and Human Resources Department.
• Monitors and assures compliance of all athletic coaches and assistant athletic coaches with District and CIF policies, rules and regulations.
• Provides orientation for all new athletic coaches and training prior to the start of the designated sports season.
• Provides yearly orientation for all returning athletic coaches and assistant coaches.
• Keeps updated logs of all orientations and trainings provided to athletic coaches and provides documentation to site principal.
Interpersonal Relations:
• Assumes liaison responsibilities with the District and with the league, section Commissioners, and Booster Clubs.
• Fosters good school-community relations.
Budget:
• Prepares, recommends and monitors the athletic program budget including ASB funds, team funds, and booster funds with the assistance of the Account Clerk assigned to the ASB Program.
• Reviews all athletic program budgets with principal or designee.
Organization:
• Organizes the overall program of extra-curricular athletics including scheduling both intramural and interscholastic athletics for the school.
• Schedules with Transportation Department the use of school buses, District vehicles and/or private vehicles to transport student athletes to scheduled athletic events.
• Coordinates use of facilities and practice schedules with the physical education department and the administrator in charge of activities/facilities at Gilroy High School.
• Monitors the preparation and care of athletic facilities.
• Monitors athletic eligibility for participation in each sport.
• Responsible for student medical and insurance requirements.
• Schedules team physicians as needed.
• Coordinates recognition program for school athletics.
• Serves as teacher of record for athletic grades and records.
• Works closely with the Athletic Booster Club to support high school athletic programs.
Other Related Duties:
• Enforces rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
• Provides clear direction for out of town athletic events to ensure compliance with Transportation Department and District/Board rules and regulations.
• Prepares requisitions for supplies and equipment and maintains inventories of all athletic equipment.
• Completes required district forms for all athletic trips and transportation vehicle requests in a timely manner for District and/or Board approval.
• Other related duties as assigned will be performed.
State Laws and District Policies/Regulations:
• The Athletic Director will uphold the state laws, district policies/regulations, and local school regulations adopted to meet state and district policies.
Note: This position will be filled under guidelines of California Education Code 44919.
