STANISLAUS UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION - CERTIFICATED TEACHER, 7-8 Job Description Update approved: August 2003 DEFINITION Under the direction of the site administrator, to provide an educational program for pupils; to assist in other school programs and activities as part of the professional responsibilities; to perform other adjunct duties as assigned, and to do other related work as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Personnel in this job classification may perform any combination of the essential duties shown below. This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this classification, but is intended to accurately reflect the principle job elements. • Provides an instructional program as defined by district adopted Standards of Expected Pupil Achievement, utilizing the adopted curriculum, for assigned pupils. • Implements administrative regulations and procedures as defined in board policy. • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to provide planned experiences in order to motivate students and best utilize instructional time. • Utilizes the appropriate instructional techniques, activities, strategies, and supplemental materials that will adapt the curriculum to the needs of individual pupils and be consistent with district goals. • Evaluates, maintains records of academic and social growth of pupils. • Communicates with parents regarding pupil progress and to interpret the school program. • Collaborates with other faculty members regarding the progress of individual pupils. • Identifies the needs of pupils and collaborates with other relevant faculty members in assessing and resolving health, attitude and learning problems. • Administers mandated tests in accordance with district and state testing requirements. • Fulfills assigned responsibilities for pupil supervision. • Participates in curriculum, staff meetings, and other developmental programs within the assigned school and on a district level. • Plans and supervises the work of instructional aides, as required. • Participates in the outdoor education program if assigned to sixth grade. • Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment. • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a desirable learning atmosphere which provides physical and psychological security. • Performs basic attendance accounting, textbook and materials accounting, and other business services as required. • Prepares and submits all required reports and information as required, in a timely manner. • Keeps academic and behavioral records, prepares progress reports and report cards, and maintains cumulative folders, as required. • Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies pertaining to teaching and instruction of multi-age pupils; Child growth and development, and behavioral characteristics; Educational curriculum and instructional goals and objectives, and the educational trends and research findings pertaining to educational programs; Behavior management and behavior shaping strategies, techniques and methods, and conflict resolution procedures; Socio-economic and cultural differences of the school community. Ability to: Plan, organize, develop, and conduct a comprehensive instructional program; Effectively assess the educational needs of pupils, and design, develop, and implement sound educational plans; Provide and promote an environment that is conducive to learning; Perform research and development activities pertaining to programs designed to enhance pupil educational opportunities and experiences; Communicate with parents and pupils in a sensitive manner; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical requirements below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out the essential job functions. • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. • This type of work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods. • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be: EDUCATION: Possession of a Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university. EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of student teaching experience at an accredited college or university, or qualification in an internship program. CREDENTIAL: A valid teaching credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing authorizing service in the assigned area. Candidates applying for positions at federally funded schools must be fully credentialed. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Insurability by the district’s insurance liability carrier. Employment is contingent upon fingerprint and background clearance, and proof of a recent negative tuberculosis test result.
