Essential Job Functions:
Administers minor first aid to students (cuts, bruises, etc.) for the purpose of meeting their immediate health care needs.
Assists students during mealtime and playground activities for the purpose of supporting them in these activities.
Controls traffic using a hand held stop sign. Reports unsafe conditions and unsafe drivers to Administration.
Diffuse potential student conflicts (i.e. arguments, fights, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing the frequency or severity of incidents that could cause harm to students and/or disrupt campus activities.
Monitors assigned areas for the purpose of ensuring non-authorized persons are not on school grounds, preventing vandalism, hazards, etc.
Monitors assigned crosswalk for the purpose of assisting students in following safety rules while crossing streets.
Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments, (e.g. bus loading/unloading, playgrounds, hallways, cafeteria, etc.) for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of students, adherence to District and school policies, and/or feedback regarding individual student
Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (i.e. discipline, accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of campus rules, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to teachers and/or administration using written, verbal or use of radio communication.
Reports non-authorized persons, vandalism and hazardous conditions to Administration.
Responds to inquiries of the public, parents and/or students for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
Responds to potential emergencies (e.g. medical, alarm calls, bomb threats, fights, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety of students, personnel and property.
Other Job Functions:
Assists other personnel (e.g. administrators, teachers, etc.) as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in responding to incidents, monitoring physically, emotionally and/or mentally limited students in school environment listed herein.
Assists with the cleaning of tables during meal periods, as may be required, for the purpose of ensuring health and safety of the students
Job Requirements - Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division); to read instructions, write simple sentences and speak correctly; and to apply common sense understanding of detailed multi-step instructions
Skills to perform multiple basic non-technical tasks. Specific skills to apply pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; communicate with persons of varied cultural and educational backgrounds; and perform basic first aid.
Abilities to deal with a level of complexity of tasks that require significant flexibility with equipment operations and/or people; discretion, independent action and/or judgment with regards to working with people; and interacting with persons and/or agendas that frequently change. Specific abilities to adhere to safety practices; and be attentive to detail.
Responsibility in relationship to people includes leading, guiding and/or coordinating. Moderate opportunity exits for significant impact (positive or negative) on the organization’s mission. Work is not normally reviewed in detail.
Working Environment: The job functions are generally performed in an indoor/outdoor environment requiring the following significant physical abilities: lifting, standing, walking, sensory, speaking, hearing and visual.
Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience Requirements: Some job related experience is desired.
Licensing, Certification, Testing Requirements: Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance; Tuberculosis clearance. Completion of District provided safety training for crossing students will occur prior to these duties being performed.
