OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Assists the teacher and students in a variety of skilled and semi-independent activities and lessons including the production and preparation of materials, participation in assessment meetings, instructing and assisting students, student supervision, student testing, meeting legal requirements, assisting students in the use of computers, maintaining records and deadlines, and monitoring assignments. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provide direct instruction to individual and groups of students according to their Individual Education Plan (IEP) or the Computer Education Program. 2. Assist teacher in the delivery of instruction to small or large groups of elementary students in the use of computer courseware. 3. Prepares materials and or lessons for student use in the computer lab/classroom and monitors student assignments. 4. Assists with researching, preparing and maintaining confidential files to insure compliance with legal guide lines. 5. Responsible for clerical duties including record keeping, preparation of legal forms, composing correspondence, and coordinating schedules. 6. Assists in administering and monitoring diagnostic tests. 7. Provides assistance to teachers using district and non-district computer courseware in the classroom, including word processing, microcomputer operation, and multi-media technology. 8. Supports, assists, and supervise the enforcement of classroom, school and district rules. 9. Works as a team member in assessing and in meeting student needs. 10. Operates various machines used in the instructional process and in the preparation of classroom materials. 11. Maintains good public relations with students, parents, staff, and community. 12. Operates computers, assist with setup, maintenance, and repair of hardware in lab and/or classroom, maintains knowledge of district and/or site courseware, assists with courseware ordering, distribution, installation, and implementation, and maintains courseware library. 13. Performs other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: School system and support personnel; general classroom procedures; basic English usage and math skills; general office machines; general principles of child development, microcomputers and related software. Ability to: Schedule conferences; consult with teachers about pupil assignments, progress, and behavior; instruct students individually and in groups; organize and maintain confidential files; learn assignments taught in specific subject areas; understand and implement oral and written direction in English; relate well with students; communicate effectively with a wide variety of personalities and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; pass Instructional Paraprofessional Proficiency Test; operate office machines, operate a microcomputer and related courseware. Experience Two years experience in a classroom situation. Education Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent. 6 units in early childhood/child development completed at an accredited college or university for paraprofessionals working in Headstart or Preschool programs. Supervision Under general supervision, reports to the site administrator.Receives direction and assistance from assigned certificated staff member(s).
