Sequoias Community College District is seeking an equity-minded candidate to fill a full-time, tenure-track position in the Animal Science Department beginning August 2023.

Job Duties
• Teach an array of courses in the areas of Animal/Dairy Science, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science/Vet Assisting.
• Anticipated courses for this faculty position for the upcoming academic year may include Intro to Animal Science, Farm Animal Biology, Small Ruminant Science, Intro to Dairy Science, Dairy Breeding & Selection, Veterinary Terminology, Intro to Veterinary Science, and/or Veterinary Office Practices
• Use varied learning and teaching methods appropriate for community college students.
• Assess student performance and progress through various course assignments.
• Perform related teaching duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities related to enrollment, attendance, and student drops.
• Refer students to appropriate support services, programs, and/or resources as needed.
• Oversight of ag instructional units within the livestock/vet assisting areas to ensure they are functioning to support the animal science and related educational programs including maintenance of equipment, driving tractors, trucks and ATV vehicles and transporting livestock with college trucks and trailers.
• Oversight of ag instructional laboratories within the animal science department (dairy, sheep, beef, equine, swine and vet assisting) including daily animal care such as animal checks, feeding, breeding, marketing livestock and managing student workers and volunteers.
• Collaborate on department initiatives, curriculum, certificate and degree program development, program review, program and student learning outcomes development, and assessment to improve student learning.
• Regularly collaborate with Animal Science faculty to assess and revise measurable student performance indicators for collecting and reporting data on Student Learning Outcomes as needed for each course.
• Contribute to the development and growth of the Agriculture Division and Animal Science Department.
• Evaluate program success through analysis of data and annual submission of program reviews and related applications for funding on behalf of the Animal Science Department.
• Engage with high school programs and adult populations to grow and maintain enrollment.
• Recruit membership and gather input from advisory committees.
• Participate in professional development around teaching improvement and/or animal science technical skills improvement.
• Engage in collaborative projects with industry, university partners or community college partners around teaching and/or best practices within the Animal Science industry with the intent of increasing student opportunities in real-world experiences.
• Participate and serve in Division activities such as Division meetings and District committees.
• Participate as a team member in the Agriculture Division to host and attend events, advise student clubs and councils as well as build relationships with other Ag Departments at high schools or 2-year colleges.
• Satisfy faculty professional responsibilities.
Assignments may include evening classes and teaching at any of the Sequoias Community College District campuses: Visalia, Hanford and/or Tulare. Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.
Other responsibilities include maintenance of office hours, participation in department and/or division responsibilities, and the willingness to create and participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity, which is respectful of diversity Districtwide.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate must meet the following criteria:
• B.S. (M.S. Preferred) in Agriculture, Animal Science, Dairy Science or Agriculture Education with specialization /background in Animal Science/Veterinary Assisting.
OR
• The Equivalent
AND
• Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, which pursuant to Title 5 §53022, is a core system competency and job requirement.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
The Agriculture Department is looking for evidence of the following:
• Teaching experience at the university, community college, adult or secondary level with specific teaching or training experience in Animal Science, Dairy Science, Veterinary Sciences or closely related.
• Evidence of work experience in the animal/dairy industry with demonstrated experience in animal care and handling, breeding, nutrition, and marketing of dairy, sheep, swine, and beef operations.
• Practical experiences with farm facilities and equipment used in the industry including ability to drive tractors and trucks, hitch, and pull trailers loaded with livestock.
• Combined set of experiences in budget and livestock management to demonstrate the ability to integrate a livestock educational program within the parameters of an educational institution in a cost-effective manner.
• Demonstrated knowledge of sound pedagogy and adult teaching techniques that contribute to students' learning and engagement.
• Evidence of strong computer skills with ability to learn and navigate software for curriculum, student learning outcomes, as well as instructional tools such as Canvas.
• Ability to use a variety of teaching strategies and assessment methods that encourage retention while successfully challenging a diverse student population.
• Ability to implement contemporary pedagogical philosophies, methods and techniques, including multi-media, to develop and deliver instruction in classroom and lab settings.
• Experience with or interest in alternative instructional modalities, such as web-based instruction, cooperative learning or integrated curricula.
• Ability to work collaboratively, as a team, with students and fellow faculty.
• Evidence of ability to take on leadership roles within the Ag Division as well as within the institution as a whole.
• Experience in and/or commitment to working with students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, academic and disability backgrounds. The ability to recruit underrepresented students into the agriculture program is imperative (Equity response completed as part of the application).
• Evidence of the ability to address the needs of diverse and frequently underprepared student populations taking a wide range of college level courses.
• Evidence of ability to enhance student development through organizations, clubs, events, competitions, judging teams, employer engagement and internships.
• Expertise in strategies for recruitment of students to the Agriculture Division.
• Experience in writing, using and measuring student-learning-outcome objectives within courses and programs.
• Ability to work collaboratively toward development and implementation of Division goals mapped to District goals and objectives.
• Ability to effectively engage with, and facilitate, authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, culture and experiences.
