The Long Beach City College District is seeking a qualified and motivated individual for the role of Buyer. An incumbent performs moderately complex to complex technical duties in purchasing a wide array of equipment, materials, supplies and services. An incumbent is expected to provide customer-responsive, cost-effective and high-quality purchasing services for customers, consistent with applicable legal requirements.

• Location: Liberal Art Campus, but will support both campuses
• Salary: RANGE 34 $5,226.01 - $6,438.00 Monthly
Advanced salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Duties
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general direction, independently performs moderately complex to complex specialized and technical purchasing responsibilities for a variety of materials, supplies, services and equipment in accordance with District standards and policies and all applicable legal requirements; and performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
Education, Training and Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is completion of two years of college-level coursework in procurement, public administration, business administration, finance or a closely related field; and two years of progressively responsible experience purchasing items similar to those purchased by the District; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in a public agency is preferred.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
May require a valid driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the district's vehicle insurance policy.
Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.
APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS:
To be considered a candidate for this position, all materials required should be received by the Long Beach City College Office of Human Resources by the closing date. Incomplete or late applications will be disqualified from further consideration. Qualified candidates will be notified in writing if they are moving forward in the selection process.
Application Process:
• Submit a completed online application through NEOGOV. All portions of the application must be entirely filled out to be considered for this position.
• If the position requires a college degree, transcripts or copy of a diploma, the required document must be attached at the time of application. Unofficial transcripts are accepted during this phase. For experience substitution in lieu of education, please make sure to attach a statement clearly outlining how your additional experience covers the education requirement, on a year-for-year basis, and qualifies you to be considered for this position.
• If you participate in and fail any examination segment, you must wait a period of 90 days (~3 months) to test again for the same classification.

The following examination segments are pass/fail and may be utilized during the selection process:

Subject Matter Expert (SME) Review: TBD
An Online Written Test or Oral Panel Interview may be used to assess applicant qualifications. Test parts are determined by the size and competitiveness of the candidate pool.
The qualified candidates will be placed on an unranked list. Seniority points for internal existing LBCC employees and points for Veteran's credit will not be added. The unranked list will be submitted to the hiring authority for consideration.
