  1. Description of Position:

As part of a secondary teaching assignment, teaches one or more classes of mathematics to pupils in grades 5-12, and assists in other school programs as assigned.

Under the immediate direction of the site administrator.

  1. Prime Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance and individual, dual, or team sports to secondary pupils, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
    2. Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication and other general element of the course of study common to all teachers as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
    3. Work cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program, adapting daily scheduling to accommodate weather conditions and to provide time for changing clothes, showers, and instruction, exercise in sport activities.
    4. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge’s and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
    5. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil to the extent feasible.
    6. May teach one or more classes of adapted physical education for students with orthopedic and/or medical problems.
    7. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the over-all safety of pupils.
    8. Maintains surveillance over storage and use of such items as school-owned uniforms towels, lockers, equipment, and supplies to prevent loss and abuse, working through student monitor or locker room attendants where appropriate
    9. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide and orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
    10. Evaluates each pupil’s growth in physical fitness, and physical skills and know ledges. Assesses each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group in team sports. Prepares progress reports.
    11. Maintains professional competence through participation in in service education workshop and clinics provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
  2. Other Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. Selects and requisitions uniforms, equipment, instructional aids, and instructional supplies, and maintains required inventory records.
    2. Communicates with parents and counselors on the individual pupil progress.
    3. Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. 
    4. Supervises pupils in out of classroom activities during the assigned working say.
    5. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district leave. Teach under modular or flexible scheduling plans.
    6. Performs basic attendance accounting and business service s as required.
    7. Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees.
    8. May plan and coordinate the work of aids, teacher assistants, or other paraprofessionals

 

  1. Minimum Qualification:
    1. Education: Bachelor’s degree with physical education major or minor, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
    2. Experience: Practice teaching (6 semester hours or 120 clock hours) or two years of full time teaching experience, at least half in physical education. Senior high teachers assigned to interscholastic or there special activities shall have had demonstrated teaching experience and/or competence in the activity in which assigned.
    3. Personal Qualities: Appearance, grooming and personally which establish a desirable example for pupils. Ability to meet district standards for physical and mental health. Better average recommendation from student teaching supervisor and other professional who have observes the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher. Physical stamina and skill in sports and other physical activities.
  2. Goals of Effective Performance:

To develop in each pupil an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each pupil to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustment to discover and develop talent of pupils in physical achievement to develop strength, skill, agility, poise, coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities in sports, in accordance with each pupils ability to establish good relationship with parents and other staff members.

  1. Examples of Education Achievements etc:
    1. Education: A minimum of 30 semester hours beyond bachelor’s degree. Physical education major with master’s degree (preferably also with physical education major) or its equivalent. Depth of knowledge in science involves in physical education such as anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology. Appropriate comprehensive knowledge of fundamental, rules and strategies of physical fitness, gymnastics and tumbling, individual and dual sport, mechanics of body movement and health aspects of physical activity, rhythms and dance, team sport, combative for boys and aquatics when facilities are available. Participation in a variety of relevant in service education classes, workshops, clinics and demonstration lessons.
    2. Professional Experience: A minimum of three years of physical education teaching experience, involving pupils with varying ability and skill levels. Physical education teaching experience in two or more schools, preferably in different socio-economic areas. Experience in meeting the need of slow learners and pupils with limited physical skill. Participation in curriculum writing and /or curriculum committees in a district level. Professional assignment such department chairman demonstration teacher, in school or district resource teacher, or student teacher supervisor.
    3. Other Experience: active participation in competitive sports or other physical activities in high school, college, or adult amateur or professional groups. Development of a broad background of general knowledge and an understanding of human relationship through such activities as travel, military service, classroom teaching in different grade levels and subject areas or work experience other than as a classroom teacher. Interested and participation in one or more professional or community organization.
