CAFETERIA COOK/MANAGER
HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL
DEFINITION OF POSITION:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Food Services, shall perform the duties necessary to the safe and clean operation of the school cafeteria, including the preparation of good balanced meals meeting the requirement of TYPE A lunches for Federal Food Subsidy; the purchasing and storing of food and cafeteria supplies; the preparation of menus; assigning work to and directing the cafeteria workers in their duties and attending to the cleanliness of the kitchen and food serving and preparation area. Keeps necessary records and supplies information for reports as required in order to secure surplus Federal Food and subsidies. The Cafeteria Cook/Manager shall perform any additional duties pertaining to the operation of the school cafeteria as directed by the Director of Food Services.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Plans menus; orders food and supplies; sees that food is properly stored; directs and assists in the cooking and preparation of food; assigns, directs and assists the cafeteria worker in their duties; is responsible for and assists in keeping cafeteria serving and food preparation areas clean and orderly; keeps necessary records and inventories of food and supplies; sees that equipment and food preparation machinery is in good working order.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Menu planning and preparation of food in large quantities for a balanced diet; how to use and operate modern kitchen equipment and food preparation machinery for bulk preparation of meal; cooking techniques; planning meals within the financial limits set by the Board of Education.
Ability to:
Keep necessary records and inventories; plans menus for balanced meals; directs and assist in the preparation of good tasty food; order necessary foods and supplies and arrange for proper storage of same; use modern kitchen equipment and machinery; assign work and duties to cafeteria workers and to work cooperatively and harmoniously with them; read and write and carry out oral and written instructions.
Experience:
At least one-year experience in a school cafeteria as a worker manager.
Education:
Equivalent to completion of high school or comparable cooking school. Satisfactory work experience may be substituted for schooling.
