I. General Functions
Teachers shall be responsible to the school principal, and
A. Encourage, inspire, and motivate children to learn.
B. Adhere to the course of study, use legally authorized textbooks, and follow the policies prescribed by the district.
C. Instruct students in the principles of morality, truth, justice, patriotism, free government, and a true comprehension of the rights, duties and dignity of American citizenship.
D. Give attention to the physical welfare of pupils and to ventilation, lighting, and temperature of school rooms and to the general wellbeing of pupils.
E. Contribute to good staff relations.
F. Cooperate in community activities.
G. Assume a part in curriculum development.
II. Duties and Responsibilities
A. Staff problems
Teachers shall work cooperatively to find satisfactory solutions to staff problems.
B. Work load of school
Each teacher shall assume graciously a fair share of work of the school to be assigned by the principal, such as yard and bus duty.
C. Attendance
Teachers shall be at school at least one-half hour before the time set before the opening of school and remain at least one-half hour after class dismissal.
D. Reports, cumulative records, and registers
Reports, cumulative records, and registers are to be kept accurately, neatly, and submitted promptly on request.

E. Confidential information
Teachers shall treat confidential information according to the ethics of the profession, and the policies of the Board.
F. Channels of communication
Teachers shall act through channels of communication prescribed by the superintendent.
G. Code of ethics
Teachers shall adhere to The Code of Ethics of the Education Profession, adopted by the NRA Representative Assembly, July,1968, and by the CTA State Council of Education, November, 1968, (see attachment)
H. Outside activities
Teachers should not engage in outside activities which impair teaching efficiency or lesson moral standing.
I. Care of materials and equipment
Teachers shall be responsible for school property and shall instruct pupils in its proper care.
J. Adequate teaching plans
Teachers shall plan sufficiently and effectively, and shall keep substitute teacher folders current and available.
K. Extra—curricular activities
Teacher shall assume a fair share of the extra-curricular duties.
L. Discipline
Teachers are responsible for the discipline of their own classes and for helping to maintain general school discipline.
M. Faculty meetings
Teachers are expected to attend faculty meetings at the time and place designated.
N. PTA meetings
All teachers are expected to attend PTA meetings.
O. Professional improvement
Teachers are expected to support professional organizations and are encouraged to attend meetings of these groups.
Teachers shall participate in district in-service activities as directed by the superintendent.
P. Reporting pupil progress
Pupil progress shall be reported in at least two regularly scheduled conferences with parents each year.
Q. Recruitment
Teachers shall encourage promising students and other persons to enter the teaching profession.
R. Medical examination
Each employee shall have a chest X—ray or TBN skin test as required by the State Board.
S. Recording credential
Teachers shall have the proper credential recorded with the County Superintendent of Schools.
T. Accidents
Teachers shall be responsible according to policies of the Board for the care and reporting of accidents.
U. Health and welfare
Teachers shall work with the school nurse in all health problems and activities,.
V. Grooming
Teachers are expected to set a positive example for children and community. Concern for personal appearance and professional judgment is essential. Personal grooming is a part of the established teacher evaluation.
W. Substitutes — Notification
Anyone requiring a substitute must call before 7:00 a.m. of the day needed. Anyone having a substitute should notify the Personnel Office as soon as he or she is certain of being able to return to work. In no case should this be later than 7:00 a.m. of the day of return. After that time, the employee will be expected to pay for the substitute. The Personnel Office will notify the substitute of the employee’s return as soon as possible
