The Director will build relationships with the individuals leading charter schools in the region and develop comprehensive strategies to ensure schools are renewed and have access to the resources they need to be successful. This position works closely with charter school operators, community partner organizations, district and county elected officials and senior staff to enhance policy, influence the political landscape and create a supportive ecosystem to ensure quality, achievement gap-closing schools have the resources and supports they need to thrive.

Overview of Responsibilities
The Southern California Local Advocacy team supports over 243 charter schools across 5 counties with 131 of those charter schools in San Diego County. The Director will build relationships with the individuals leading charter schools in the region and develop comprehensive strategies to ensure schools are renewed and have access to the resources they need to be successful. This position reports to the Vice President, Southern California, Local Advocacy.
Essential Duties
  • Policy Making and Advocacy: Manage charter-related policy matters at the San Diego County Office of Education, San Diego Unified School District and other districts or counties as assigned.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate relationships with local district and county elected officials, local charter leaders, community partners and senior charter staff.
  • Coalition Building: Engage as a partner with aligned community organizations to advance access to quality public education.
  • Political Engagement: Provides support as appropriate to CCSA Advocates—CCSA’s tandem 501(c)4 organization—with campaign efforts at the local and state level.

Benefits and Salary
Salary for this position starts at $73,950 annually. Selected candidates will be offered a starting salary based on years of aligned experience and any specialized training or certifications (if preferred for the position). Flexible Workplace
CCSA is a fully remote organization. CCSA staff work in all regions of the state with significant presence in Los Angeles, Sacramento, the Bay Area, the Central Valley, and San Diego.
