ANAHEIM UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: OFFICE ASSISTANT - BILINGUAL BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of general and varied clerical duties in support of an assigned office; answer phones and greet and assist students, parents and visitors; provide oral and written translation and interpretation of materials from English to a designated second language. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Perform a variety of general and varied clerical duties in support of an assigned office including typing, filing, duplicating and distributing materials. E Type letters, memoranda, bulletins, newsletters, reports, requisitions or other materials from detailed or rough copy; compose routine correspondence; proofread completed typing assignments. E Serve as receptionist, answering telephone calls and directing calls to appropriate personnel; translate for callers as needed; take and relay messages as appropriate. E Receive, greet and direct visitors; respond to inquiries and provide a variety of routine information to staff, students, parents and the general public related to District standards, procedures, policies and programs. E Provide oral and written translation and interpretation of materials from English to a designated second language; translate at a variety of meetings and conferences as needed. E Compile information and prepare and maintain logs, files and records; review and verify the accuracy and completeness of various documents; prepare routine reports as directed. E Receive, sort and distribute mail and supplies; prepare and distribute informational packets and bulk mailings as directed. E Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer, fax machine, copier and calculator. E Assist with office functions such as enrollment, counseling, and attendance as assigned by the position. Perform related duties as assigned. *School offices are expected to work as a team. Clerical/secretarial personnel may be asked to perform duties typically assigned to other classifications during the first weeks of school and in the absence of others. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Telephone techniques and etiquette. Basic record-keeping and filing techniques. Correct oral and written usage of English and a designated second language. Operation of standard office equipment including a computer. Oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Basic math. ABILITY TO: Perform routine clerical duties such as filing, typing, duplicating and maintaining routine records. Learn modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Answer telephones and greet the public courteously. Type at 35 words per minute from clear copy. Read, write, translate and interpret English and a designated second language. Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Complete work with many interruptions. Receive, sort and distribute mail. Perform basic mathematical calculations. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Positions in this classification are required to speak, read and write in a designated second language. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Constant interruptions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard. Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Seeing to read a variety of materials. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to file materials.
