School Health Clerk I and II High Tech High Developed by a coalition of San Diego civic leaders and educators, High Tech High opened in September 2000 as a small public charter school with plans to serve approximately 450 students. HTH seeks a School Health Clerk, to support the school health services, under the direct supervision and guidance of the School nurse. JOB SUMMARY The School Health Clerk performs a wide variety of skilled clerical duties, first aid support, and medication administration; meeting the health needs of students; documenting and maintaining student health information required by Federal, State and Local agencies; and other duties directly related to this class description.

          Duties include: Clerical ? Orders and maintains health office supplies. ? Maintain accurate data entry in the student information system regarding student visits to the health office, health care plan, physician orders, immunizations and annual screenings. ? Maintain an accurate updated list of students with reported health concerns. ? Prepare, distribute, and maintain first-aid kits for classrooms. ? Collect, maintain and audit annual student reporting for immunizations, Child Health and Disability Prevention Program, oral health and other reporting as assigned. ? Participate in Medi-Cal billing activities. ? Assist with recording and submitting staff and student incident reports. ? May assist school personnel in general clerical tasks. Student Services ? Screen sick or injured students referred to the health office. ? Provide first aid, as needed. ? Corresponds with parents and staff with regards to health concerns. ? Keep the health office and equipment clean and properly maintained. ? Under the guidance of the District Nurse, administer oral and emergency medication to students according to District policies, Education Code, and as prescribed by the individual student’s health care provider. ? Assist with the preparation and arrangements for health screenings performed by the District nurse ? Assure immunization compliance of students. ? May be required to provide diabetic care, ostomy care, respiratory care, oxygen use, tracheotomy care, suctioning, tube feeding, and catheterization. ? Participate in Medi-Cal billing activities. ? Assist with recording and submitting staff and student incident reports. ? May be required to assist with toileting activities. ? Lifts and maneuvers students in use of wheelchairs, bathrooms, etc. ? Administration of COVID testing EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE ? High School Diploma or equivalent required ? Licensed Vocational Nurse desirable for School Health Clerk II ? A minimum of two (2) years of experience in recordkeeping, hospital work, or experience working with children, is desirable; or any combination of training and/or experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities ? First Aid and CPR Certified The ideal candidate would possess the following competencies: ? Modern office methods, procedures, and equipment/computers ? Organization, collection and storage of data ? Data information systems, software and current technology ? Ability to understand and follow district policies, procedures and practices related to health issues, medical terminology and related activities ? Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy ? Time management CLASSIFICATION CHARACTERISTICS The distinguished difference between School Health Clerk I & II is in the amount, complexity, and responsibility encountered in the performance of the duties. While the general job descriptions are very similar, the amount and extent of the work for Health Clerk II is more complex, requiring additional and more responsible judgement. Incumbents in this class use greater independent judgment in performing general clerical work and in the performance of duties relating to caring for ill and injured students. Incumbents provide minor first aid and dispense medication in accordance with School procedures and policies. Contact with students in continuous and incumbents regularly function without direct supervision, although the duties and guidelines for independent action are well defined and supervision is available for all non-routine health office matters.
