ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM TEACHER
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provides an educational program for pupils in grades K-5, or a combination thereof, and assists in other school programs as assigned.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to pupils in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
2. Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skill, and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
3. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
4. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
5. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
6. Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
7. Communicates with parents through a variety of means. Holds parent conferences when needed to discuss the individual pupil’s progress, and interpret the school program.
8. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff, members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, social hygiene, attitude, and learning problems.
9. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
10. Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-elected professional growth activities.
11. Performs necessary attendance accounting and business services.
12. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory records.
13. Insures a comfortable room environment, through control of heating, lighting, and ventilation to the extent possible.
14. Shares equitably in supervising pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the normal working day.
15. Administers group standardized test in accordance with district testing program.
16. Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees. Attends faculty meetings for the purpose of disseminating information and formulating school policies and procedures.
17. Shares equitably in the supervision of student curricular and extra curricular activities.
18. Participates in faculty committees and faculty meetings for the purpose of disseminating information and formulating school policies and procedures.
19. Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals when integrally related to areas of responsibility.
20. Complies with State education code and District board policy.
21. Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Under the immediate direction of the site administrator or designee.

Workyear: Teacher’s workyear
Salary: Placement on teacher’s salary schedule
Sick Leave: Ten (10) days yearly

Valid appropriate California credential - Multiple Subject w/Supplemental in Music or Single Subject Music Valid California EL Authorization, Valid CA Driver's License Tests taken Letter of Interest Resume 3 current letters of recommendation dated within the last year. One must be from a prior Administrator or Supervisor.
