All new candidates interested in guest/substitute teaching in the San Juan Unified School District must meet the following requirements:
• Hold a teaching credential based on a degree and student teaching OR • Be eligible to apply for an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit which has the minimum requirements of: o Must possess a bachelor’s degree or higher; and o Passed the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) or CSET Multiple Subject with Writing

In addition, you must: • Show teaching competency by: o Completion of a teaching credential program based on a degree and student teaching OR o Completion of the online Substitute Teacher Training Program ($39.95 fee) linked to this site with a passing SubAssessment composite score of 85% or better. • Pass a Criminal Background Check All new candidates interested in being either a substitute Child Development Permit Teacher (CDPT) or substitute Preschool Teacher must meet the following requirements: A valid Child Development Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing: CDPTs - applicants with 0 to 23 semester units of child development coursework may substitute for CDPT vacancies. Preschool Teacher - applicants must have either a bachelor's degree or 24 or more child development semester units. Guest Preschool Teachers may substitute in either CDPT or Preschool vacancies. Any Preschool Teacher or CDPT serving in an infant/toddler job must have three semester units of infant/toddler coursework. Job Description Links: CDPT and Preschool Teacher
