POSITION DESCRIPTION: Organize and teach choir and music education to elementary school students. Develop a performing choir at each school or group of schools to which assigned DUTIES – E=Essential Duties Establish a schedule of vocal music activities for each school to which assigned E; organize and present vocal music programs for assemblies E; teach and provide a basic music vocabulary E; encourage musical responsiveness and sensitivity in children through the aesthetic experience E; prepare progress reports for each student instructed E; select music vocal music programs E; arrange the physical environment in which lessons, rehearsals, and performances are conducted E; establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior in order to provide a total atmosphere for learning E; confer with parents and teaching staff on the vocal music program and individual student progress E; supervise pupils during the assigned workday and in other district sponsored music activities E; other related duties as assigned Requirements: 1. Valid California Single Subject Credential in Music 2. English Learner authorization is required 3. Valid California driver’s license

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Organize and teach beginning classes in instrumental music (utilizing standard band instruments), choir and music education to elementary school students. Develop a performing instrumental music ensemble and choir at each school or group of schools to which assigned

 

DUTIES – E=Essential Duties

 

1.  Establish a schedule of instrumental and vocal music activities for each school to which assigned E

2.  Recruit fourth and fifth grade students to receive instruction in playing standard band instruments and choir E
3.  Provide class instruction to beginning musicians and rehearse more advanced students E
4.  Select, edit and rearrange orchestrations to conform to the musical ability of students E
5.  Organize and present instrumental music programs for assemblies E

6.  Teach the basic foundations of music theory (note reading, rhythms, etc.) and provide a basic music vocabulary E
7.  Encourage musical responsiveness and sensitivity in children through the aesthetic experience E
8.  Prepare progress reports for each student instructed E
9. Arrange the physical environment in which lessons, rehearsals, and performances are conducted E
10.  Confer with parents and teaching staff on the instrumental and vocal music program and individual student progress E
11.  Maintain an inventory of, and is responsible for, District musical instruments assigned to his/her custody E
12.  Maintain and make minor adjustments to musical instruments E
13.  Provide student demonstrations of musical instruments to classes upon request E
14.  Assist the intermediate school principals in the identification of prospective instrumental music students E

15.  Other duties as assigned E

 

Knowledge of:


1. Appropriate developmental tasks for elementary age students.
2. Safe practices in classroom activities.
3. Basic instructional methods and techniques.
4. Appropriate interpersonal relations using tact, patience and courtesy.
5. Basic record-keeping techniques.
6. Must have or be able to secure a valid California Drivers License



Ability to:
1. Monitor and observe student behavior according to approved policies and procedures.
2. Communicate effectively orally and in writing with children and adults.
3. Work confidentially and with discretion. 

4. Work within a budget to ensure program needs met

5. Work closely and cooperatively with program manager, site principals, site staff, students and parents to develop and expand elementary band programs

6. Work with a wide variety of culture
