CLASS TITLE: OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR - TRANSPORTATION
BASIC FUNCTION:
Plan, organize, coordinate and supervise the operation of the district transportation system; train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Assists in the development and administration of the district transportation program to meet the requirements of the district’s instructional program and extra-curricular activities. E
Prepares routes and schedules. E
Train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; participate in the interviews and selection of new employees. E
Communicate with staff, administration and the public regarding transportation operations concerns, including complaints and student discipline. E
Develop and maintain school bus safety procedures, accident prevention and investigation programs. E
Assists in the preparation and administration of the transportation department budget. E
Assists in accident investigations and completes required reports. E
Verify timecards and payroll data. E
Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and federal regulations. E
Schedule drivers for extra duties based on contract requirements; modify schedules as appropriate. E
Plan and evaluate bus routes and stops; provide safe and efficient routing for students including special education routes; modify routes as appropriate. E
If required to maintain a Class B license, may transport students due to unavailability of other drivers.
Perform dispatching duties as necessary.
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Safe and defensive driving practices and safety procedures.
State and Federal drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Proper operation of school buses.
Provisions of the Education Code, California Vehicle Code, and California Administrative Code relating to the transportation of students.
Transportation scheduling techniques and routing methods.
Record-keeping techniques.
First aid procedures.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Principles and practices of supervision.
ABILITY TO:
Supervise and provide work direction to others.
Prepare and maintain accurate records.
Train, supervise and evaluate personnel.
Drive a school bus safely and efficiently.
Conduct safety inspections and perform routine preventative maintenance.
Apply and interpret District policies and procedures relating to students.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Use a computer to prepare various paperwork, reports, and correspondence.
Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and four years of increasing responsible experience in a large transportation operation preferably in a supervisory capacity.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Class C license
If deemed necessary by the District, the following may also be required:
Valid California Class B drivers license w/passenger endorsement
Valid California School Bus Driver Certificate
Medical Card
Valid First Aid Certificate
WORKING CONDITIONS:

School Bus and indoor environment.
Driving a vehicle to conduct work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
Reaching, pulling and pushing using moderate force.

Traffic hazards.
